O those people who have proclaimed to have believed in the Messenger and Qur’ān, listen;

!اے وہ لوگوں جنہوں نے رسول کریم (محمّد ﷺ)اور قرءان مجید پرایمان لانے کا اقرارو اعلان کیا ہے توجہ سے سنو

You people should not address the Messenger [Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam] by saying "Raa'ina-" (regard us). Instead of that word, you people are hereby directed to say this: "U'nzurna-You kindly pay us attention-look towards us". Moreover, you people attentively listen him what he recites-transmits from the Book.

اللہ تعالیٰ کے رسول(ﷺ) کو مخاطب کرکے تم لوگوں کو رَاعِنَا(ہمارا خیال کیجئے)نہیں کہنا چاہئے۔بلکہ انہیں یوں مخاطب کرو: ”أُنْظُرْنَا- آپ ہماری طرف توجہ فرمائیں“۔اورتم لوگ غور اور انہماک سے ان سے قرء ان کو سنو۔

Be mindful, a grievous punishment is in wait/prepared for those who are the deliberate/persistent deniers. [2:104]

اورمتنبہ رہو! ایک دردناک عذاب کافروں (رسول کریم اور قرء ان کاانکار کرنے والوں) کیلئے تیار اور منتظرہے۔

Neither those elite of the People of the Book who have refused to believe in the Messenger due to heart burning, rancorous and resentment against the choice of Allegiant person-(see 2:90), and nor elite Pagans-Idolaters who have refused to accept the Messenger, like:

اہلِ کتاب میں سے وہ سرکردہ عمائدین جنہوں نے بَغْيٙا،جلن،کینہ سے ۔[حوالہ البقرۃ۔90]رسول کریم کو ماننے سے انکار کر دیا ہے اور نہ مشرکین میں سے رسول اللہ کا انکار کرنے والے عمائدین یہ پسند کرتے ہیں:

That: whatever is surpassing and awesome (Aaya'at) for you people not be sent upon you (the believers) periodically by your Sustainer Lord [read with 16:30].

کہ آئندہ تم لوگوں کے لئے مزیدقطعاً کچھ بھی موجب خیر( آیات ِ قرءان ِمجید)کو وقفے وقفے سے تمہارے رب کی جانب سے نازل کیا جائے(النحل۔۳۰ ساتھ پڑھیں)

Their rancorous and resentment is uncalled for (2:90), since Allah the Exalted by His own Will and Special Grace makes him uniquely dignified selection whom He the Exalted likes.

ان کا جذباتی جلن اور غبار خاطر سے انکار کا جواز نہیں (البقرۃ۔90)کیونکہ اللہ تعالیٰ جسے چاہتے ہیں سوچے سمجھے فیصلے کے تحت دوسروں سے اسےممتاز و افضل کر دیتے ہیں،ان کی رحمت کایہ اظہار ہے۔

Know it, Allah the Exalted is the possessor of Infinite Bounty. [2:105]

اوریقینا اللہ تعالیٰ عظیم ترین فضل کرنے والے ہیں۔

Should Our Majesty intend to reposition-relocate segment of an Ayah: verbal unitary passage or wholly retaining her as such We would thereby bring-impose thereat a better suited text than that or Ayah resembling that.

اگرہم جناب کسی آیت کے کسی جملے یا اُس آیت کو ویسے ہی برقرار رکھتے ہوئے اُس کے مقام موجودگی کو بدلنا چاہتے ہیں تو ہم اس جملے یا اس آیت کے مقام پر اُس سے نسبتاً زیادہ موزوں یا اس کے مثل مدون فرما ناپسند کریں گے۔

[Ignore what they say, majority know not as how books are finalized composition 16:101] Do you not know/you certainly know: That Allah the Exalted is eternally the Causality Determiner upon each and all things - to set them right-fix them in measure. [2:106]

[لوگوں کی باتوں کو رہنے دیں، ان میں اکثر کو علم نہیں- النحل۔۱۰۱] کیا آپ نہیں جانتے/آپ تو جانتے ہیں کہ اللہ تعالیٰ یقینا ہر شئے کو پیمانوں میں محدود اور مطابقت پیداکرنےپر قادر ہیں۔

[Why to care for their slander, this worry was justified] Were it not already in your knowledge:

کیا آپ(ﷺ) نہیں جانتے/آپ جانتے ہیں۔

That the dominion and governance of the Skies and Earth is exclusively the domain for Allah the Exalted.

کہ اللہ تعالیٰ ہیں، آسمانوں اور زمین پراقتدار اعلیٰ اور ان کا نظم و نسق صرف ان کے دائرہ کار میں ہے۔

(tell them) And you people realize that not at all a patron-guardian-protector nor at all a helper is there, other than Allah the Exalted, who could be of avail for you. [2:107]

اوراے لوگو! یاد رکھو اللہ تعالیٰ کے سوا قطعاً کوئی سہارا /محافظ اور قطعاًکوئی مددگار نہیں جو تم لوگوں کے لئے دادرسی کر سکے۔

Or do you intend that you might raise questions to the Messenger [Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam] of you people in the manner as was Mūsā [alai'his'slaam] questioned foretimes?

کیا(اہلِ یہود کی طرح) تم بھی اپنے رسول کریم (ﷺ)سے اِس طرح سوال کرنا چاہتے ہو جیسے زمانہ قبل میں موسیٰ(علیہ السلام) سے کئے گئے تھے؟

Be mindful; Whoever purposely converts from the state-announcement of acceptance-belief to refusal-disbelief, thereby, for reason of conversion he is certainly the one who has forthwith lost the Way of Dynamic balance-Straight Path. [2:108]

یاد رکھوجو کوئی ایمان کوبدل کرازخودکفر کرے گاتو وہ معتدل راہ سے یقینا بھٹک گیا/اس نے معتدل راہ کو کھو دیا۔(البقرۃ۔۱۰۸)۔

Many jealous elite cherishing heart burn and resentment among the People of the Book wished:

اہلِ کتاب میں سے ان (یہودی)مقتدر اور صاحبان علم کی اکثریت کی یہ خواہش ہےجو نسلی تعصب اور جلن کی آگ میں کڑھ رہے ہیں۔

That they could convert you people back to the state- company of stringent deniers, after your affectionate acceptance of the Messenger and the Qur’ān. Their wish is because of selfish envy emanating within their selves —

کہ کاش تم رسول کریم اور قرءان مجید پرایمان لے آنے والوں کوایمان لانے کے بعدانکار کرنے والوں میں لوٹا دیں ۔ یہ خواہش صرف اُن کے حسد کی بنا ء پرہے۔

After that which the "Infallible Doctrine-Discourse, Bearer of Proven Truths-Fact": Grand Qur’ān has since made evident - manifest for them.

ان کی یہ خواہش باوجود اس کے ہے کہ بیان حقیقت (قرء ان مجید)نے ان کے لئے ہر بات کو نکھار کر واضح اور متمیز کر دیاہے ۔

Nevertheless, you people tell the truth overlooking their grudge, and remain indulgent - forbear persistently till such point in time Allah the Exalted might enforce His Decree.

اِس لئے تم لوگ حقیقت بتا ؤ اور اُن سے کنارہ کش رہو اُس وقت تک کہ اللہ تعالیٰ کا حکم جاری ہو/تم تک پہنچے۔

Certainly, Allah the Exalted has eternally the command and control over each and all things, individually and collectively, to set them right - fix them in measure. [2:109]

یقیناًاللہ تعالیٰ ہر ایک شئے اور معاملے کو پیمانوں میں مقید کرنے پر ہمیشہ سے قادر ہیں۔

Moreover, you people maintain Institution of As-sa'laat: Time Bound Protocol of Servitude and allegiance —

اور استقلال و استقامت ؍منظم طریقے سے تم لوگ صلوٰۃ کی ادا ئیگی کرتے رہو۔

And you people willingly pay Az-zaka'at: financial liability for economic uplift of society.

اورمعاشرے کے نطم و نسق اور معاشی اٹھان کے لئے مالی تعاون ؍ زکوۃ کی ادائیگی کرتے رہو۔

Be aware; whatever good should you send ahead for yourselves [for life in the Hereafter], you will find it secure with Allah the Exalted.

اور مطمئن رہو؛ بھلائی میں سے جو کچھ بھی تم لوگ مستقبل میں اپنے فائدے کے لئے پیش قدمی کے طور کرنا چاہو گے تو یقینا اسے اللہ تعالیٰ کی جانب سے ریکارڈ پر موجود پاؤ گے(چاہے ذرہ برابر ہی کیوں نہ ہو)۔

Certainly, Allah the Exalted ever keeps focused watch upon volitional acts which you people keep performing. [2:110]

متنبہ رہو؛ ا للہ تعالیٰ ہر لمحہ اُن اعمال کودیکھ رہے ہیں جو تم لوگ کرتے ہو۔

This is a compound word. يَآ Vocative Particle-اداة نداء , to call and address a person + Noun, in accusative state, peculiar persons who are being called-attention is being sought-confronted. [اسم مبنى على الضم فى محل نصب لأنه منادى] + Attention particle [الهاء للتنبيه].

Relative Pronoun; Plural; masculine. Apposition [بدل] to .

This clause, referred as صِلَةُ الْمَوْصُولِ relationship linking clause, is verbal sentence that serves specifying the Relative Pronoun. Verb: Perfect; Third person; plural; masculine; active; [Form IV]; Subject Pronoun, in nominative state: مصدر-اِيمانٌ Verbal Noun. It refers to those people who have claimed/pronounced to have accepted the belief.

"You people should not address [the Messenger] by saying, "Raa'ina".

Prohibitive Particle [نَاهية جَازمة] + Verb: Imperfect; Second Person; Plural; Masculine; Mood: Jussive evident by elision of نَ ; and Subject Pronoun, nominative state; [اْ] at the end is to indicate that the preceding is the part of earlier word. It means, "you look towards us".

Instead of that word, you people say, "U'nzurna-you kindly pay us attention-look towards us".

This is an informative and declarative inverted nominal sentence.

Recommencing/Conjunction particle [اِستئنافية].

This Prepositional phrase relates to fronted elided predicate. Prefixed preposition لِ + Active participle: definite; sound plural; masculine; genitive.

This is adjectival phrase. Noun: Indefinite; Singular; Masculine; Nominative. This is the Subject of Nominal sentence, it is adjectively described as . Adjective resembling participle [الصفة المشبهة] on فَعِيْلٌ measure: Indefinite; Singular; Masculine; Nominative.

The elided predicate is normally conspicuously evident and understandable by other words of the sentence. However, it is mentioned and pointed out at other place, in these words:

And He the Exalted has prepared a great torment for those who [in time and space] deliberately refused to accept. [Refer 33:08]

Important point-lesson to note and remember.

The first direct address and first direction to those who proclaim to have believed is for adopting the most respectful and cautious attitude while they are in the presence of the Messenger Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam . The careful and respectful conduct is to an extent that they should not employ a word which could be articulated in such a manner that some audience could perceive a sound conveying meanings of little or derogatory import.

The first and foremost requirement and obligation of a person becoming a believer is to acknowledge, and be cautious of the most dignified stature and position of the Messenger Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم and to conduct most respectfully with regard to him; otherwise the belief and all good acts could go waste and be of no consequence. [Read carefully 49:02-03]

In Arabic vocabulary, word is otherwise a genuine and valid word . Believers are directed to avoid using it while in the presence of the Messenger Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam. The cause was the abuse of the human capability of "vowelizing" the sounds of consonants by some emigrant Arab-ized Jews of those days. They articulated it in such a manner that some audience could perceive sound conveying meanings of little or derogatory import. They said this word in this manner:

"and they say in the manner of twisting and turning it with the help of their tongues". [Refer 4:46]

This command also exposed facts about language. A complete account of the language is with reference to the way sounds are produced, i.e. articulation and the way they are perceived, i.e. its auditory properties. The auditory distinguishing of vowels from each other depends on the precise shape and volume of the oral cavity, i.e. the region of the vocal tract between the larynx and the opening of the mouth. The main organ involved in adjusting the shape and volume of the oral cavity is the tongue.

Letters and consonants coupled with diacritic combinations produce composite speech sound and that is a "word" conveying a specific perception and meanings. The First Ayah of Grand Qur’ān in this Surat does not contain what is termed as "vowel". It shows that consonants and vowels are two different entities, the later being something which is secondary and subsequent in taking actual existence and appearance. The vibration of an apparatus given the name “Vocal Cord”, quite recently, first produces the sound of consonants. However, way back Qur’ān gave more specific description حَبْلِ الْوَرِيدِ, the Cord that makes reach the thought/idea to a point where the limit of another place start-auditory apparatus of listener. Thereafter, the tongues create the vowel sounds, or we can say “vowelization” takes place afterwards.

The phenomenon of vibration of vocal cord [حَبْلِ الْوَرِيدِ] producing sound, or in fact converting the idea/thought, retrieved from memory, one intends to convey to others, into sound is but natural, upon which the man does not exercise mechanical control by will. However, once the sound has arrived in the mouth cavity, the tongue mechanically articulates it by will and design to "vowelize" the sound in the manner the speaker likes to throw/eject it out of the mouth.

The shape of the vocal tract, and the way the human tongue manipulates, grants it the capability to willfully take three extreme positions that lead to vowel sounds. If the body of the tongue is pushed forward and turned towards the roof of the mouth we get the stressed sound of vowel [ـِ] called كسرةٌ carrying sound like "i" in English words "leap-neat-seat'. This is exactly what some emigrant Arab-ized Jews of those days did while uttering this word.

Many of us might feel that this injunction was relevant to those who were present during revelation of Grand Qur’ān; considering that we are not those fortunate who were the direct audience of the elevated Messenger of Allah the Exalted, Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم . That was not the point even in those days. No true believer would have articulated this peculiar word in a manner denoting a perception of lowly-disrespectful import. The sensitivity of the issue relates to auditory aspect of this word. Notwithstanding how honestly and sincerely it was pronounced, some person around might perceive it in his audition a sound conveying meanings of little and disrespectful import.

Therefore, the point of utmost importance to note and remember is the choice of words we select while talking or writing about and mentioning the person of the elevated Messenger of Allah the Exalted, Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم. Never, I repeat never ascribe a word to him of little value and import, or attribute anything derogatory, lowly, negative, or otherwise considered small and ordinary not proportionate to his greatness, highly dignified and elevated stature. We must watch our words about him, صلى الله عليه وسلم and keep gauging the level of respect and deference we retain in our hearts.

Jussive without particle happens in conditional sentences containing a command, an interrogation, or a wishing.

The subjunctive verb occurs only in subordinate clauses. It indicates an act which is dependant upon that mentioned in the previous clause, and future to it in point of time. It is governed by the following particles:

(d) by , when it expresses the intention of the agent and the object of the act, or the result of the act, as taking place not without the will of the agent or at least according to his expectation.
