Erroneous perception of superiority and exaltation of men over women
The views held about the position of Women in timeline before Grand Qur'aan and many centuries afterwards in Western world were disparaging. Women were not considered as full human being.
We will not discuss the niceties of
"intimate partner" that are inherent in Arabic word:
since they were naively overlooked in human history.
Resultantly, we have history of violence against women which is tied to
the history of women being viewed as property and a gender role assigned
to be subservient to men.
Grand Qur'aan addressed the subject and condemned self made erroneous perceptions regards the role and relationships of two partners of human species.
In general sense men are strongly upright upon protecting the honour-dignity-rights of the women. It is because Allah the Exalted has attributed some of them distinctive features over other persons.
And the husbands are maintainers of honour-dignity-rights of their respective wives because they had spent their wealth for taking them in protective fold.
Thereby, because of the distinct physical and behavioral features: the righteously moderate wives are upright: behave in moral and honorable manner; they stand guard [of dignity/ rights/household of husbands] in the out of sight privacies for that which Allah the Exalted has protected.
And as for those wives are concerned about whom you-the respective husbands remain afraid of discordant conduct, the following course of action is hereby prescribed:
Thereat, politely and lovingly advise them;
And you husbands move them to separate bed within the bedrooms;
And you people strike: transit them out of the bedrooms [عن المضاجع] open in house rendering the suspended matrimonial relation apparent to entire family.
In response to any of aforesaid options given to you if they accepted your word; thereby, you should not pursue to find excuses against them.
Be mindful; certainly Allah the Exalted is eternally the Most Exalted, the Greatest. [4:34]
Structurally, it is a simple and by purpose a
declarative sentence. Text is expository. A declarative sentence is used
to make a simple statement. In Arabic it is a nominal sentence because
it begins with a definite noun:
the subject of sentence. It is prefixed with definite Article that
points to a generally held fact. It does not include all men. This fact
is conspicuously stated in the following predicate modifier of the
sentence.
John Medows Rodwel: Men are superior to women
George Sale: Men shall have the pre-eminence above women
Arthur John Arberry: Men are the managers of the affairs of women
