  • O You the Posterity of Iesraa'eel!

 اے بنی اسرائیل!

  • Recall My Specific Favour, the one which I had bestowed upon you people —

میری اُس عنایت کو ذہن وقلب و زبان پر تازہ کرو،وہ عنایت خاص جو ایک بار میں نے تم لوگوں پر کی تھی(ءال فرعون کے ظلم و جبروت سے  نجات دلائی۔سورۃ ابراہیمؐ۔۶)۔

  • And recall that I had given you distinction and preference over peoples of those days, Pharaoh's troops. [Made you cross over Gulf of Suez safely and drowned them all before your eyes.7:140]. [2:47]

 اور یاد کرو کہ میں نے تم  کو تمہارے  ماضی  کے لوگوں ،آلِ فرعون کے مقابل یقینا انفرادیت اورفوقیت دی تھی[تمہیں بحفاظت   بحر سویز کے پار کر دیا اور تمہاری آنکھوں کے سامنے انہیں غرق کر دیا۔الاعراف ۔۱۴۰]۔(البقرۃ۔۴۷)

  • Moreover, You (the Posterity of Iesraa'eel) guard yourself for the Day (of requital) during which none of a guilty person will avail anything from another person.

(اورتم لوگ تندہی سے محتاط رہتے ہوئے اپنے آپ کواس دن کے حوالے سے محفوط کرو جس میں کوئی شخص کسی دوسرے شخص سے کچھ فائدہ حاصل نہیں کر سکے گا (یعنی نفسی نفسی کا عالم ہو گا

  • And a guilty person's recommendation-intercession shall not be accepted [nor of others will benefit him-2:123]

 اور نہ اُس دن اُس (مجرم،کافر قرار پائے)شخص کی کسی دوسرے کیلئے سفارش قبول کی جائے گی۔

  • Moreover, a guilty person's monetary offer for redemption and remission shall not be entertained.

 اور نہ خوداُس سے معافی جرم کے لئے فدیہ لیا جائے گا۔

  • Mind it, they will never get help [from those who can otherwise help]. [2:48]

( اورنہ ہی انہیں کسی مدد کرنے والے سے مدد ملے گی۔(البقرۃ۔48

2. → : Ayah 2:47-48 comprising of 35 words has five sentences, two imperative and four informative-declarative. injunctive.

3. Concept—topic:

The address to the Posterity of Iesraa'eel continues, they are asked to be mindful of the Day of Resurrection and are given information about it.

4. Coherence:

The address to the Posterity of Iesraa'eel continues by repetition of the first sentence at the start of address in 2:40, which serves as a persuasive device.

 

  • O You the Posterity of Iesraa'eel!

  • Recall the Specific Favour of Mine which I had bestowed upon you people;

  • Recall that by this Favour I had certainly given you distinction and preference over others (Pharaoh's troops). [2:47]

 

The Ayah is a compound sentence. This Ayah is replicated in Ayah 2:122.

: It is the second independent clause of the compound sentence, conjunct to the preceding verb: "And you people recall that I"

: Verb: Perfect; First Person; Singular; Masculine; [Form II] + [التاء] Subject Pronoun in nominative state + Suffixed Object Pronoun: Second Person; plural; masculine, in accusative state; مصدر تَفْضِيْلٌ Verbal Noun. Its Root is: ف ض ل. That it leads to the perception of excessiveness, augmentation; and denotes in relative terms blessing and benefaction. Bestowing some blessing and benefaction renders the recipient distinct and preferred over others. In comparison, it signifies distinction, preference over another in favouring with something good and advantageous.

Form-II verbs are: Attributive-Estimative/Declarative: The derivative verb makes an attribution to object; to consider someone or something to be something. The equivalent of this First Person Perfect Verb in third person form is: He, Allah the Exalted has given you people preferential treatment over others. Its specific nature and the time frame of this blessing is of exodus from Egypt:

  • Know it; Our Majesty helped them safely cross over the [dried passage-fringing Reef] Gulf of Suez along with Bani Iesraa'eela;

  • Thereby, leaving the shore after having seen Pharaoh and his troops drowned, they reached/ passed by a nation who were devotedly surrounding statues declared for them as godheads.

  • They said: "O Mūsā! You get for us an iela'aha: godhead like various iela'aha: godheads made for those people."

  • He repudiated them saying: "Indeed you people are indulging in emotionalism/passions. [7:138]

  • Realize the essence of these statues: gods; it is boulder - rock fragment containing gold and silver dust. They are fascinatingly extracting therein.

  • And it is void like the froth that fades away what they people have been doing." [7:139]

  • He further said: "Do you wish me to declare as iela'aha: godhead other than Allah the Exalted wrongfully affecting you people —

  • Despite the fact that He the Exalted has just given you people preferential treatment over others (by saving and rescuing you from Pharaoh and his nation)?  [7:140]

It is thus clear that: and denotes the act of making their exodus safe and taking them out of the clutches of Pharaoh.

The criminals will be in panic and concerned only for selves on the Day of Resurrection

  • Moreover, You (the Posterity of Iesraa'eel) guard yourself for the Day (of requital) during which none of a guilty person will avail anything from another person.

The day when the criminals will be in panic - worried only about their selves:

: This sentence is repeated in Ayah 2:123

:: It is a verbal injunctive sentence. The object of verb: is specified in the dependent clause:

  • And a guilty person's recommendation-intercession shall not be accepted [nor of others will benefit him-2:123]

Recommendation - intercession by the criminal will not be accepted for anyone. Similarly it is inversely stated  in 2:223 that: : And nor recommendation - intercession will benefit a criminal.

: Moreover, nor a guilty person's monetary offer for redemption and remission shall be entertained. Similarly it is  stated  in 2:223 with a different verb that: : Moreover, nor a guilty person's offer of compensation-redemption fine shall be entertained-accepted.

: This sentence is also repeated in 2:123.
