Root: ء س و Words from this Root in the Grand Qur'aan: a) Total occurrences: 3 b) No of constructions: 1 (مقاييس اللغة) ومن هذا الباب: لي في فُلانٍ إسْوَةٌ أي قَُِدوة، أي إنّي أقتدي به Ibn Faris [died 1005] stated its signification as role model who is copied. Lane's Lexicon mentions: أَسْوَةٌ, mentioned by Er-Rághib in one of his works, An example; an exemplar; a pattern; an object of imitation; a person by whom one takes example; syn. قُدْوَةٌ or قِدْوَةٌ; Role Model is defined as a person who serves an example of the values, attitudes, and behaviors associated with a role. Role models distinguish themselves in such a way that others admire and want to copy them.
It should be noted that at all three places of occurrence in Grand Qur'aan it is an adjectival phrase qualifying it with a role which is beautiful, excellently balanced and appropriate. It indicates that there are negative role models who offer examples of harmful or disruptive behaviors-see 43:23.
