The basic perception infolded in Root : ر ج ز is of commotion, agitation or convulsion, and consecutiveness of motion, or disquiet, or repulsiveness. In consideration of its intrinsic perception/concept it is used for awarding/sending punishment from above. The punishments inflicted upon Egyptians in the days of Pharaoh were of the nature of causing commotion, convulsion; and in nature quiet repulsive, unpleasant.
And when certain irritating/troublesome phenomenon occurred upon them;
They said: "O Mūsā! call upon your Sustainer Lord for us because of the assignment He has given to you;

Acceding their request as soon We removed away from them the irritating-abominable trouble/infliction; a reprieve for a term they were reaching its terminating point,
At that point in time they used to twist away from their sworn promise. [7:135]
