Ibn Faris-ابن فارس [died-1005] stated:

على اختلاطٍ. يقال هُمْ في مَرْجُوسَةٍ مِن أمرِهم، أي اختِلاط
ومن الباب الرِّجْس: القَذَر؛ لأنّه لَطْخٌ وخَلْط

And He has appointed confusing, brain scattering, disconcert, fidgeting upon those who do not ponder and apply intellect to differentiate [conjecture from the truth]. [10:100]
