الهمزة والذال والنون أصلان متقارِبان في المعنى، متباعدان في اللفظ، أحدهما أُذُنُ كلِّ ذي أُذُن، والآخَر العِلْم؛ وعنهما يتفرّع البابُ كلُّه. فأمّا التقارب فبالأُذُن يقع علم كلِّ مسموعٍ

A pronouncement is an announcement that is authoritative, explicit and formal.

  • Their notable characteristic-parameters are:  Hearts are provided for them as locus of understanding; but they intend not to understand with those;

  • Eyes are inserted for them; but they intend not to observe with them;

  • Moreover, ears are inserted for them; but they intend not to apprehensively listen with them.

  • They are in attitude like the mammals. Nay, in fact they are rather more indifferent-lost in their selves.

  • They are truly the people who are heedlessly negligent, unmindful of surroundings. [7:179]

Conversely, the root incorporates the meanings of authorization, formal permission, allowing.

  • The Day the intercession [recommendation/pleading] shall not benefit;

  • Barring the intercession of him whom Ar'Reh'maan has granted the permission and He the Exalted had approved it for him verbally. [20:109]
