Ibn Faris [died 1005] stated:
(مقاييس اللغة)
الشين والفاء والقاف أصلٌ واحد،
يدلُّ على رِقَّةٍ في الشيء، ثم يشتقُّ منه. فمن ذلك قولهم:
أشفقت من الأمر، إذا رَقَقْت
وحاذَرت
That it leads to the perception of subtlety, gentleness, delicacy, thinness in a thing, thereafter, it signifies compassionate, commiserate, when it scumbled, alerted, and became vigilant.
