Root: س ج ل

Words from this Root in the Grand Qur'aan:

a) Total occurrences: 4

b) No of constructions: 2

The fallacy about the origin of word made from Root س ج ل.

Learned Ibn Faris [died 1005] stated the perception infolded in this Root as:

السين والجيم واللام أصلٌ واحدٌ يدلُّ على انصبابِ شيءٍ بعد امتلائِه

That the basic perception and signification of the Root is to verbally mirror an object after its fullness, repletion, effusion or  converging reflecting a larger scale structure-tectonics.

It denotes two persons vying to overcome each other. This signification indicates  lump of overlapping, layering, converging large scale structure-tectonics. Scroll of skin/parchments/papyri for writing manuscripts/books which mirrors various sheets/pieces when they are overlapped/converged upon each other forming one unit. The Grand Qur'aan has explained the meanings of the Root by descriptive presentation:

  • In keeping with the information given when Our command had reached We made the upper surface of it as its lower surface [by spreading on it layer of  volcano mud].

  • And We showered upon it stones from layers of baked clay. [11:82]

  • Those stones were earmarked by your Sustainer Lord, O you the Messenger,

  • And that land/area is not far off from the wrong-doers/evil mongers [of Mecca]. [11:83]

  • Thereby,  the sound blast seized them when were awaking at true dawn. [15:73]

  • Consequently, Our Majesty rendered the upper land surface-layer of city as its beneath layer [by spreading on it layer of volcano mud];

  • And We showered-sprayed upon them stones ejecting from layers of baked clay. [15:74]

  • And He the Exalted had sent upon them birds, in successive flocks; [105:03]

  • They were striking them by hurling consecutively upon them stones collected from baked clayobsidians. [105:04]

  • Thereby, He the Exalted rendered them resembling grain chewed/bitten/edged by teeth. [105:05]

[Read with 39:67;86:11]

That Day We will fold back the [layered into seven] Sky like the folding of scroll of parchments/papyri meant for writing the books.
