Ibn Faris [died

(مقاييس اللغة)
الحاء والجيم والباء أصل واحد،
وهو المنع. يقال حجبته عن كذا، أي منَعتُه.
It signifies preventing and hindering and
is used to describe a state when one is separated from another by
something coming in between, a barrier.
