Root: ع ص ر Words from this Root in the Grand Qur'aan: a) Total occurrences: 5 b) No of constructions: 5 The basic perception and signification infolded in the Root, in the words of Ibn Faris [died:1005], is this: (1) دهر-حين --Era, point in time-certain duration. (2) ضغط شىءٍ حَتَّى يتحلَّب---- press, squeeze, compress until transuded/exuded. (3) تَعَلَّقُ بشىءٍ وامتساك به----- to cling and remain attached/grasped with a thing. Lane's Lexicon: Press, or squeeze grapes or other fluffy things so as to force out its juice, syrup, honey, oil, water, or what was in it, moisture extracted, or fetched out by pressure or wringing. Further, it signifies an hour or a time of the day; the appointed time of middle prayer of five prayers of the day-صلوةُ العصرِ. It is evident from the foregoing that the basic perception infolded in the Root is to press a fluffy thing with the object of transuding/exuding the substance contained therein. The Grand Qur'aan has a word made from this Root denoting the Span of Time and not merely point in time or partial length of time, since for those descriptions are words like دهر-حين etc. The fact that: denotes the entire Span of Time-two extremes is the information about humanity that it is certainly earning/suffering loss. The loss is the end result between the two extremes of time-the beginning and the end. Thus, it covers the entire time line.
The man is squeezed in the time line. The time is also like a fluffy revolving/twisting ball.
