الشين والقاف أصلٌ واحد صحيح يدلُّ على انصداعٍ في الشيء،
ثم يحمل عليه ويشتقُّ منه على معنى الاستعارة. تقول
شقَقت الشيء
أَشُقه شقَّا، إذا صدعتَه.
