(مقاييس اللغة)
الواو والصاد والفاء: أصلٌ واحد، هو تحْليَةُ الشَّيء
That it signifies to add embellishment, ornamentation to
a thing.
Lane's Lexicon:
He attained to the proper age for service. A quality; an attribute; a
property; or a
description, as
meaning the aggregate
of the qualities or attributes or properties of
a thing; or the state,
condition, or case, of
a thing.
The basic concept of the Root, embellishment, has two
aspects, positive and negative. It means to increase the beauty of
something by adding ornaments or decorations. Negatively, it means to
add false details to something, to make an account or description more
interesting by inventing or exaggerating details.
In Grand Qur'aan it is used in the negative context of
embellishing lies, falsitt:

-
Further, they ascribe for Allah the
Exalted what they
abhor for their selves;
-
And their tongues embellish the falsity
saying that
the best is earmarked solely for them.
-
There is absolutely no doubt
that for them is the charring heat; and that they are who
have lagged behind and are abandoned.
[16:62]

-
And they told people:
"He-that fetus which is in the
bellies of these pointed out species of mammals are
permissible exclusively for our males; and is forbidden upon
our spouses/women."
-
Know it, should the born mammal be
in dead state, thereat, they men and women join therein.
-
Soon shall He the Exalted requite them for their
embellishment (adding false details).
-
Indeed He the Exalted is
the Infinitely Just Supreme Administrator of the
created realms and are the Fountain and Setter of knowledge-science of
visible and invisible domains.
[6:139]

-
And they produced his shirt
having stains of artificial blood upon it.
-
He said: "No, that is not the
truth, in fact your inner-selves have instigated the matter for you.
-
Thereat, the
hopefulness-steadfastness lies in dignified perseverance;
-
And Allah the Exalted is the
Resort - Recourse for that which you people are embellishing." [12:18]
