Protruding rock; Anger, displeasure, wrath, indignation, liable to criminal cognizance.

It signifies anger, fury since it is accentuation of displeasure. Because anger falls in the semantic domain of passion, it cannot be associated in these meanings with Allah the Exalted Who is the Supreme Sovereign.

Sudden emotion of displeasure is anger. It is excited by the reception of some supposed or real injury to person's character, pride, rights. The intensity of the passion depends upon the magnitude of the insult received and the pride or vanity of the individual, who receives it.

Intense anger is one of the most ungovernable passions in human breast. It takes away prudence and reason and instead prompts acts of rashness that leads to the prison.

This passion is turbulent like storm as long it lasts but usually is short lived. When the mind, brooding over the injury, seeks occasion for revenge it is then called resentment; and is associated with dislike for the offender.

Its pattern is: فَعِلَ Stative verb.
