Ibn Faris [died 1005] stated:

(مقاييس اللغة)

الْقَافُ وَاللَّامُ وَالْحَرْفُ الْمُعْتَلُّ أَصْلٌ صَحِيحٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى خِفَّةٍ وَسُرْعَةٍ.

وَمِنَ الْبَابِ الْقِلَى، وَهُوَ الْبُغْضُ

وَالْقِلَى تَجَافٍ عَنِ الشَّيْءِ وَذَهَابٌ عَنْهُ

That it leads to the perception of frivolity, lightness and speed, fastness. And it signifies dislike, abomination; and alienation, estrangement and turning away from.
