Ibn Faris [died 1005] stated:

(مقاييس اللغة)

السين والواو واللام أصلٌ يدلُّ على استرخاءٍ في شيء

سَوّلتُ له الشيءَ، إذا زيّنْتَه له

That it leads to the perception of seeking relaxation, slackness, laxity, flaccidity, gentleness in something.

It is said something caused for him relaxed and flaccid state when it appeared alluring, fascinating, adornment for him.
