Ibn Faris [died 1005] stated:

(مقاييس اللغة)

 الضَّادُ وَالْحَاءُ وَالْكَافُ قَرِيبٌ مِنَ الْبَابِ الَّذِي قَبْلَهُ، وَهُوَ دَلِيلُ الِانْكِشَافِ وَالْبُرُوزِ. مِنْ ذَلِكَ الضَّحِكُ، ضَحِكُ الْإِنْسَانِ.

That it is indicator of exposure, disclosure and risem outshoot, saliency and denotes laughter, laughing of human.

Lane Lexicon:  الضَّحِكُ is well known, as meaning the expanding of the face, and displaying of the teeth, by reason of happiness, joy, or gladness;

  • Indeed those who committed crimes used to ridiculously laugh on those from amongst those who had believed — [83:29]

  • In consequence, today, those who had believed will laugh over some of the Non Believers — [83:34]
