Ibn Faris [died 1005] stated:

(مقاييس اللغة)

الزَّاءُ وَالرَّاءُ وَالْعَيْنُ أَصْلٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى تَنْمِيَةِ الشَّيْءِ. فَالزَّرْعُ مَعْرُوفٌ، وَمَكَانُهُ الْمُزْدَرَعُ. وَقَالَ الْخَلِيلُ: أَصْلُ الزَّرْعِ التَّنْمِيَةُ. وَكَانَ بَعْضُهُمْ يَقُولُ: الزَّرْعُ طَرْحُ الْبَذْرِ فِي الْأَرْضِ.

That it leads to development and promotion of thing, and cultivation, agriculture is well known, and cultivation is throwing, sowing, planting in the Earth.

  • And gardens of date-palm and cultivated crops. Its (his: crops-grasses) eatables is of uniquely different - interchangeable dietary variety —

  • And propagated gardens of olives and pomegranates; Apparently they are mutually analogous/have conforming features; yet are mutually non-resembling in attributes —

  • You people eat from its (his: tree of olive, pomegranates) ripened fruit when it has bore fruit.

  • And grant its due on the day the crop is reaped.

  • And you should not be unmindful and transgress the just bounds.

  • Remain mindful; He the Exalted approves and appreciates not who are negligent and prodigals. [6:141]


  • He said: "You people will keep sowing grain crops for seven years as usual —

  • Thereby, when you people have reaped, thereat, leave grain in its ears except that little which you people will eat. [12:47]


  • Tracts neighbouring each other, and gardens of vines, and fields sown and ploughed grain crops and palm trees are all  in the Earth —

  • They sprout from seed/grain and from other than seed: suckers, off shoots, grafting —

  • They all are watered with the same water —

  • But Our Majesty has granted to some distinction/nutritional richness over some others in diet.

  • Indeed signs indicating the existence of the Creator and Setter of sciences are obvious in the foretasted existents for people who use faculty of reason and intellectual inquiry. [13:04]

  • یقینا ان مظاہر میں عقل استعمال کرنے والوں کے لئے حقیقت (معبود مطلق)کی جانب رہنمائی کرنے والے   اشارے/نشانیاں موجود ہیں۔


  • "Our Sustainer Lord! I have settled one of my progeny near the Sacred House of You the Exalted, in the valley which is characteristically other than the possessor-capable of cultivation for crop production.

  • Our Sustainer Lord! The purpose of this settlement is that they might institutionalize the As-Sal'aat: Time Bound Protocol of Servitude and allegiance —

  • Therefore, kindly render the thoughtful minds amongst the people that they yearn for them, emptying their long cherished traditions.

  • And do provide them sustenance of variety of fruits so that they might express gratitude. [14:37]


  • He the Exalted produces-sprouts with it (water), for the benefit of you people, the cultivated grain-crops [family: grasses] —

  • And olives and date-palms and grapes —

  • And plants of all other types of fruits —

  • Indeed a sign indicating the existence of the Creator and Setter of sciences is obvious in the aforementioned fact for the people who have the habit of reflecting objectively to arrive at the purpose of creation. [16:11]


  • And You the Messenger [Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam] strike for them the example of two persons — Our Majesty had rendered two gardens of grapevine as the source of riches for one of them —

  • And Our Majesty had bordered-surrounded both two gardens of grapevine with date-palms; and in between both Our Majesty placed cultivated grain-crop fields — [18:32]


  • And cultivated crop-fields and trees of date-palms. Her Spathe is digestive. [26:148]


  • Have they not seen/noticed that Our Majesty drive the water towards the lumpy - ploughed land —

  • Whereat Our Majesty bring out with it (water) crops; their herbivore mammals and they themselves eat out of that yield.

  • [if they don't listen] Would then they not even observe/focus upon this fact?" [or shall remain plunged in darkness] [32:27]


  • Have you not visualized/understood [reflect/study/investigate] the apparent fact that Allah sent water from the sky —

  • Thereat He the Exalted soaked and percolated it into underground reservoirs [springs, seeps, and wells] —

  • Afterwards/lapse of time He sprouted with it cultivated grain crops [monocotyledon-family grass-48:29], their colours markedly vary —

  • After a lapse of time it (crop) experiences phase of excitement and shrivel, thereupon you see it golden yellowish. Afterwards He the Exalted renders it as threshed-fragmented.

  • Indeed in it is certainly cause of remembrance and taking heed for men of wisdom who look into matters objectively without overlapping it with emotions/prejudices/biases/whims/caprices/conjectural myths. [39:21]


  • And harvested fields and par excellent places — [44:26]


  • Muhammad [Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam] is the Messenger-Spokesperson of Allah the Exalted —

  • And those who are with him (Muhammad [Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam]) are strongly determined versus the non-believers and amongst themselves are kind hearted —

  • You see them in state of kneeling and prostrating seeking the bounty, appreciation and approval of Allah the Exalted.

  • The identification mark of them is apparent within their faces [not forelock; for Angels who identify by marks] as the traces of  prostrations.

  • This is the precedent of them mentioned in the Tor'aat —

  • And their precedence is mentioned in the Injeel —

  • Like a monocotyledon grain-crop seed; it caused to get out its singular blade-shoot-sprout —

  • Thereat, it the seed strengthened that blade whereupon it made itself thick-solidified-stout. Thereat, it made itself rise upon its stalks.

  • It causes delight for the Sowers-Farmers. The striking of the simile of the believers is that it might cause irritating disquiet for those who are the non-believers.

  • The promise of Allah the Exalted as self imposed obligation for those amongst them who accepted-believed and performed deeds righteously and moderately [as directed in the Book]: forgiveness and splendid reward. [48:29]


  • Are you the one who cause it sprout/grow? Or We are the One Who sprout/grow it?  [56:64]
