Ibn Faris [died 1005] stated:

الضَّادُ وَالرَّاءُ وَالْعَيْنُ أَصْلٌ صَحِيحٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى لِينٍ فِي الشَّيْءِ. مِنْ ذَلِكَ ضَرَعَ الرَّجُلُ ضَرَاعَةً، إِذَا ذَلَّ

That it leads to the quality of moderate, soften in a thing; thereby, it signifies when a man adopts attitude of servility, subservience, humbleness, lowness.

  • Thereupon, Our Majesty purposely seized them with crisis and economic adversity —

  • ۔خوشحالی میں ہونے کے سبب ابتدا میں ہم جناب نے انہیں ناگفتہ بہ حالات اور معاشی کساد بازاری کی گرفت میں لیا۔

  • The purpose was that they might render their selves to humbleness. [6:42]

  • ۔اس کا مقصد یہ تھا کہ وہ ازخود سےفرمانبرداری ، عاجزی،نرم خوئی کا رویہ اور روش اپنائیں۔

  • Sequel to having inflicted them the calamity caused by Our Majesty why they neglected to become submissively humble?

  • تو پھر کیوں انہوں نے فرمانبرداری،عاجزی،نرم خوئی کا رویہ نہیں اپنایا جب ہم جناب کی سختی نے انہیں اپنی لپیٹ میں لے لیا تھا۔

  • On the contrary, their hearts became hardened, unmoved, fixed to their stance.

  • ۔بلکہ الٹا ان کے دل زیادہ سخت اور ہٹ دھرم ہو گئے۔

  • And Shai'taan/Satan made alluring for them what they were doing. [6:43]

  • ۔اور شیطان نے ان کے اس طرز عمل کو جس پر وہ کاربند تھے ان کے لئے  باتکرارخوشنما اور دل کش بنا دیا تھا۔

  • You the Messenger [Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam] confront people: "Name him who saves/rescues you people from the layers of darkness-clueless locations-bewilderment of the Desert and the Ocean-Sea?

  • You people in such situations call upon Him in humility, and privately-secretively:

  • "We swear that if He rescued us from this life threatening situation, we will henceforth certainly remain obliged and grateful." [6:63]

  • You people call upon your Sustainer Lord, humbly and privately.

  • Remain mindful; He the Exalted does not appreciate and approve for nearness those who transgress-go beyond prescribed limits-rationality. [7:55]

  • Know the certain fact of history; Our Majesty whenever deputed Elevated and Chosen Allegiant [upon reaching strengthen maturity] to act as Messenger in a city:

  • تاریخ سے مطلع ہوں؛یہ حقیقت ہےہم جناب نے کسی بھی بستی میں  کبھی کسی کو نبی مبعوث نہیں فرمایا۔

  • Without exception, Our Majesty had seized and subjected her inhabitants to crisis and economic adversity —

  • ۔سوائے ان حالات میں کہ خوشحالی میں ہونے کے سبب ابتدا میں ہم جناب نے اس میں بسنے والوں کو ناگفتہ بہ حالات اور معاشی کساد بازاری کی گرفت میں لیا تھا۔

  • Its purpose was that they might render their selves to humbleness. [7:94]

  • ۔اس کا مقصد یہ تھا کہ وہ ازخود سےفرمانبرداری ، عاجزی،نرم خوئی کا رویہ اور روش اپنائیں۔

  • And remember your Sustainer Lord in your heart in humility and fearing secretively —

  • And in the manner other than loud utterances in the mornings and evenings —

  • And you should never be in such state of mind of those who are unmindful/indifferent/negligent. [7:205]

  • And indeed We had seized them with affliction [as eye opener] whereby neither they gave in for their Sustainer Lord [their past practices/conjectural concepts] —
