Learned Ibne Faris [died 1005] had given its perception in these words, as is reflected above:

يدلُّ على قِلّة الخير

ومن هذا الباب الجُحود، وهو ضدّ الإقرار، ولا يكون إلاّ مع علم الجاحد به أنّه صحيح

That it leads to the perception of littleness of good and appreciable; and it signifies denial, repudiation and is opposite to admission, confession, affirmation, recognition. It is such denial and repudiation about which the wrangler has the knowledge of its veracity and truthfulness.

Lane Lexicon:  inf. n. جَحْدٌ and جُحُودٌ, He denied a thing; dis-acknowledged it; in an absolute sense, whether knowing it to be otherwise than as he represented it to be or not.


Basic perception infolded in the Root is that of paucity of anything good and appreciable; and to deny, or not to acknowledge a thing in absolute sense. It relates to denial of such a thing about which the person from within knows it to be otherwise - knows it to be true, as is highlighted in 27:14. Thus denial is not for reason of some confusion or suspicion about the stated thing; but is deliberate and conscious public denial after refusing it, in consideration of it being damaging for their personal motives/pride/arrogance/favourable status quo.

  • O you the Messenger [Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam] We certainly know that indeed it grieves you what they people keep saying in public

  • ۔ہم جناب بہت اچھی طرح جانتے ہیں اے رسول کریم۔وہ یقیناً آپ کے لئے موجب   رنج،حزن و ملال بنتا ہے جو وہ(انکار کرنے والے عمائدین)کہتے رہتے ہیں۔

  • Why you feel grief; it should not cause you grief [10:65;36:76] because indeed they do not publicly contradict and accuse you of falsity

  • آپ کیوں غمزدہ ہوتے ہیں،کیونکہ یہ حقیقت ہے کہ وہ آپ کی ذاتی تکذیب تو نہیں کرتے؛

  • Instead, the unjust people, the distorters of fact purposely deny publicly the Aa'ya'at: Verbal Passages of the Book of Allah the Exalted. [6:33]

  • ۔بلکہ حقیقت کو مسخ کرنے والے یہ کج رو تو درحقیقت اللہ تعالیٰ کی آیات کے متعلق  باوجود ان کی حقانیت کا ادراک رکھتے ہوئے انکار کرتے ہیں۔


  • They had adopted their code of conduct as play and amusement

  • یہ وہ لوگ ہیں جنہوں نے ان کے لئے مقرر کردہ  آئین وضابطہ حیات کو  زیر مقصد بیکار دلبستگی ،کھیل اوراہم کام سے توجہ ہٹانے کے مترادف کے طور لے لیا تھا۔[نکتہ: دین کا تعلق اور مقصد آخرت ہے اور جو آخرت کو نہیں مانتے ان کے نکتہ نظر سے دین بیکار مشغلہ ہے]۔

  • And the life of the Earthly world had put them in deceptive delusion.

  • اور حقیقت یہ ہے کہ دنیاوی زندگی نے انہیں دام فریب میں جذب کر لیا تھا۔

Root: غ ر ر

  • Hence, logical conclusion is that today Our Majesty is indifferently discarding them like their discarding and indifference towards confronting their day, this one

  • ۔چونکہ جرم و سزا کے اصول واضح طور پر بتا دئیے گئے تھے اس لئے ہم جناب نے آج انہیں درخور اعتنا نہیں گردانا بالکل ویسے جیسے انہوں نے اپنے اس دن کو دیکھنے کویاداشت سے محو کر دیا تھا۔

  • And because they kept denying verbal passages of the Book of Our Majesty. [7:51]

  • ۔اور اس بنا پر کہ  ہماری آیات کی حقانیت کا ادراک کر لینے کے باوجود ان کی وہ  تردید کرتے رہے۔


  • Remember, this was the civilization of Aad

  • ۔متنبہ رہو؛یہ تھے عاد۔

  • They knowingly and deliberately rejected the Aa'ya'at: verbal passages and unprecedented displays of their Sustainer Lord; and rejected the word of His Messengers

  • انہوں نے اپنے رب کی آیات کاباوجود ان کی حقانیت  کا ادراک رکھتے ہوئے انکار کیا؛اور ان جناب کے رسولوں کےانتباہ  کو ماننے سے انکار کرتے رہے۔

  • And they purposely followed the word and command of every tyrant/powerful obstinate. [11:59]

  • ۔اور انہوں نے  رسولوں سے عناد رکھنے والےہر جابر  کے فیصلے کی بھرپور پیروی کی۔


  • Observe it, Allah the Exalted has granted distinction to some of you people over some others with regard to grant of sustenance-affluence.

  • The fact remains that those given distinction of affluence by excessive resources will not divert their wealth to those upon whom their right hand have authority and managing responsibility: domestic servants/serfs in their submission, whereby they all become equated in affluence.

  • Is it that they the affluent knowingly deny the grace and bounty of Allah the Exalted? [16:71]


  • Thereupon, when Our Aa'ya'at: unprecedented displays came to them that were luminous:

  • مگر جوں ہی تصور،تجربہ،سائنسی توجیح سے ماورا ہماری شہادتیں(آیات/معجزات)ان کو پہنچ گئیں،روز روشن کی طرح بصیرت افروز انداز میں:

  • [but despite that] They remarked, "It is evident visual illusion". [27:13]

  • توانکار کرنے والے عمائدین نے کہا"یہ تو سوائے صریحاً طلسماتی شعبدہ بازی اور فریب نظر کے حقیقت میں کچھ نہیں"۔

  • And they contradicted about them (unprecedented displays) behaving unfairly and in self-exaltation-aggrandisement though their inner-selves had become deeply convinced about them (sign - unprecedented displays).

  • ۔اور انہوں نے ان کے بارے حقیقت کے منافی اور خود پرستانہ عظمت کے زعم میں حیل و حجت کے روئیے کو اپنائے رکھا۔

  • Thereby (to reduce sense of your grief), keep in mind as to what was the upshot of the people of past who creators of distortions, divergences, intellectual corruption in the society? [27:14]

  • ۔اس لئے(اپنے احساس غم کو کم کرنے کےلئے)آپ (ﷺ)اس بات کو پیش نظر رکھیں کہ ماضی میں  علمی اور فکری بگاڑ پیدا کرنے والوں کا آخر کار کیا انجام ہوا تھا۔


  • And for that Our Majesty have sent to you the Messenger [Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam] the Book (Qur’ān).

  • In response those whom Our Majesty had given the Book they accept/believe in it (Qur’ān)

  • And from amongst these [whom Book was not given earlier] are also those who believes in it (Qur’ān).

  • While no one deliberately and knowingly publicly refutes acknowledging Our Verbal Communications except the non-believers/those who have deliberately/knowingly refused to accept. [29:47]


  • Nay, you have not drafted it, the fact is that it (Qur’ān) is the miscellany of explicitly explicative verbal passages, well known signs in the chests of those whom knowledge has been given.

  • ۔

  • And no one wrangles - publicly refutes acknowledging Our Verbal Communications except the evil/distorters of fact/unjust people. [29:49]


  • And the moment waves wrapped over them like the overshadowing canopies

  • They called upon Allah the Exalted for rescue promising that on being saved they will adhere to the Constitution and Code of Life as sincere devotees-allegiant for Him the Exalted

  • انہوں نے اللہ تعالیٰ  کو مدد کے لئے پکارا یہ وعدہ کرتے ہوئے کہ وہ بچائے جانے پر   اُن کے  متعین کردہ آئین  اور ضابطہ حیات/ دین (اسلام)کے ساتھ مخلصانہ یکسوئی سے وابستہ رہتے ہوئے کاربند ہوں گے۔

  • In response to their prayers, when He the Exalted rescued them surviving and safe towards the land-shore, thereat some of them make themselves moderate.

  • ان کی پرسوز پکار پر جوں ہی ان جناب نے انہیں حفاظت سے خشک ساحل پر پہنچا دیا تو  ان میں سے   وہ خلوص اور  تندہی سے  راست طرز عمل  پر کاربند ہو گئے   جو شکر گزار تھے۔

  • Take note that none denies deliberately and publicly about Our Aa'ya'at-Verbally communicated passages except every ungratefully disobedient betrayer. [31:32]

  • ۔


  • This is like as those were deluded/diverted [with baseless conjectural assertions] who used to deliberately and knowingly discard the Aa'ya'at of Allah the Exaltedverbal passages of Book and unprecedented signs—displays sent to them. [40:63]

  • And as for A'ad are concerned,  they for reason made their selves obsessed-puffed with pride of grandeur and superiority in the World, without justifiable cause and reason.

  • And they boasted, "Who is stronger than us in power and might?"

  • Why could they not see-given a thought before uttering it that Allah the Exalted, Who had created them, is far more powerful than them in strength and might.

  • Moreover, they deliberately kept refuting publicly acknowledging Our Verbal communications sent through the Messengers. [41:15]


  • This, the Requital and reward for the enemies of Allah the Exalted is the Hell-Prison Our Majesty

  • The permanent abode is reserved therein for them Our Majesty

  • The requital for that which they people deliberately and knowingly kept denying verbal passages of the Book of Our Majesty. [41:28]


  • And indeed they were the people whom Our Majesty had established with power in the state in which Our Majesty have not established you

  • And We Our Majesty rendered for them faculty of listening, observation and interpreting/intellect/knowledge/know how/technology as their distinction

  • But neither their faculty of listening, nor of vision and nor wisdom/knowledge did avail profit in averting anything from them

  • When they deliberately kept denying and wrangling with the Aa'ya'at: Verbal passages of Allah the Exalted

  • And that hemmed then about which they consciously adopted a non serious jesting attitude keeping themselves playful with. [46:26]

  • ۔اورآخروہ(عذاب) ان سے ملصق ہو گیا /ان پر آن پڑا جس کے بارے  دانستہ اور زیرمقصد تمسخر اڑاتے رہتے تھے۔
