Ibn Faris [died 1005] stated:

(مقاييس اللغة)

الشين والراء والعين أصلٌ واحدٌ، وهو شيءٌ يُفتَح في امتدادٍ يكون فيه. من ذلك الشّريعة، وهي مورد الشَّارِبة الماء

That it signifies a thing in its extent, elongation and span it has been in such state; and from it is coming to water to drink.

Lane Lexicon: The beasts entered into the water, and drank of it:  he (one coming to water to drink) took the water with his mouth:

  • And Our Majesty has compositely sent to you the Messenger [Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam] the Book (Grand Qur’ān); it is the composition of Infallible Doctrine-Discourse-Constitution.

  • It (Qur’ān) serves as the affirmer - certifier - sanctifier for that which was revealed in front of it from the (Principal - Mother) Book.

  • یہ نازل کردہ مخصوص کتاب(قرء ان)تصدیق کرنے/حقیقت قرار دینے والا ہے اس کو جو اِس سے قبل زمان و مکان میں کتاب خاص (ام الکتاب)میں سےنازل کیا گیا تھا۔

  • Simultaneously, tt (Grand Qur’ān) is a protective umbrella upon that (the revelation in the past).

  • Therefore, you the Messenger adjudge between them according to that (Qur’ān) which Allah the Exalted has compositely sent (Grand Qur’ān).

  • Take note; you the Messenger should not incline to pursue their conjectures and hearsay in deviation of that which has reached to you as Infallible Doctrine-Discourse of Established Facts.

  • Our Majesty have declared this for each one of you people as a single source and path: pursuing in letter and spirit the Book of Allah the Exalted [as was told to the first couple before dispatching them to the Earth-2:38;20:123].

  • [to differ is the right and prerogative granted to man] And if Allah the Exalted had so willed; He would have indeed made you all one harmonious unit [by exercising infinite power and dominance and taking away the freedom of will/choice]

  • But the purpose for not making you one harmonious unit by force is that He the Exalted might subject you people to test for exposure of your true worth in what He has given to you [the Book and other things]

  • Therefore, [leave them engaged in their diversions] you people diligently hasten doing the best things.

  • اے ایمان لانے والو! تم لوگ نیکیوں میں ایک دوسرے سے سبقت لو۔

  • The return of you people will be directed towards Allah the Exalted; all of you on the Day of Requital:

  • Thereat, He the Exalted will disclose to you the matter in which you purposely kept differing. [5:48]


  • And you ask them about the people of the town which was situated by the side of the sea:

  • اورآپ(ﷺ)ان سے اس بستی کے متعلق پوچھیں جو ایک سمندر کے کنارے واقع تھی

  • With reference to when they started transgressing in the matter of Sabbat: rest-holiday for commercial activity on observing that fishes in their area emerge on surface on their legal day off; and on the day when they were not legally off business the fishes were not coming to them.

  • ان دنوں کے حوالے سے جب وہ لوگ سبت(معاش کے لئے شکار سے ممانعت کا دن)کے معاملے میں قدغن سے باہر نکلتے تھے جب مچھلیاں ان کے سبت کے دن تیرتی ہوئی ان کے سامنے سطح سمندر پر آ جاتیں مگرجس دن ان کا سبت نہیں ہوتا وہ ان کے سامنے سطح پر نہیں آتی تھیں۔

  • This is how Our Majesty were subjecting them to trial for the reason of their transgressing the prescribed bounds. [7:163]

  • اس انداز میں ہم جناب انہیں آزمائش میں ڈالتے رہتے بسبب اس کے کہ انہوں نے قیود سے تجاوز کو اپنی سرشت بنا لیا تھا۔


  • He the Exalted has ordained for you people the Path-Fountain of perpetual flow/Source/Ordinance - Code of Conduct that which He had enjoined on Noah [alai'his'slaam]

  • And that (Qur´ān) which Our Majesty have verbally communicated to you the Messenger [Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam]

  • And that Our Majesty had enjoined upon Iebra'heim and Mūsā [alai'his'slaam] and Easa [alai'his'slaam]

  • That Universal Ordinance is: "you people keep yourselves firm and steadfast for the Prescribed Code of Conduct and Procedure, and you people should not transform yourselves in divisions -sects in it."

  • This universally ordained Ordinance; towards which you the Messenger [Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam] invite them, is heavy upon those who worship hand-sculpted Statues considering and calling them as various iela'aha: godheads.

  • Allah the Exalted chooses for grouping towards Him the one whom He wills

  • And guides towards Him the one who determines to turn [on the Ordained Straight Path] [42:13]


  • Or for them are the associates/partners who have ordained an ordinance for them from the Code of Conduct and Physical Procedure for which Allah has not granted the permission?

  • And had the Word of Day of Segregation/Separation/Compartmentalization not preceded [from their Sustainer Lord] certainly the matter would have been finalized between them.

  • And indeed the distorters/wrong doers are the onesa severe punishment is prepared and is in wait for them. [42:21]


  • Afterwards, Our Majesty have appointed you the Messenger [Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam] as Revivalist to call people upon the Fountain of perpetual flow-Source-Ordinance from the Command, therefore, follow that (command) in letter and spirit

  • And you should not consider worthwhile following conjectures and wishes of those who do not have the knowledge [of the Book]. [45:18]
