Ibn Faris [died 1005] stated:

(مقاييس اللغة)

السين والراء والقاف أصلٌ يدلُّ على أخْذ شيء في خفاء وسِتر

That it leads to the perception of taking possession, obtaining, stealing something secretly and clandestinely.

Lane Lexicon:  He stole from him property, [or the thing,] i. e. he took it [from himsecretly, and by artifice; (Mgh;) or he came clandestinely to a place of custody, and took what belonged to him, namely, another person;

  • And the man when convicted as committer of theft-robbery and the woman when convicted as committer of theft-robbery:

  • Thereat you-society-government detach hands: multiple links of both of them, in the manner of restraint. This is a proportionate requital from their Sustainer Lord for what they two earned-did.

  • Eventually when as soon he (Yu'suf [alai'his'slaam]) had got ready-uploaded their merchandise: food grains on camels —

  • He (Yu'suf alai'his'slaam) placed the drink-filled flask [-definite feminine noun] in the saddlebag of his younger brother.

  • Afterwards the caravan had left, a caller chasing them from behind loudly sought their attention:

  • "O you the caravan listen, indeed you are certainly thieves." [12:70]

  • They said, "By Allah, indeed you people have since come to know that we have not come here that we might foully jest in the land —

  • And nor were we thieves." [12:73] [at this place and point in time none alleged them as thieves, but they referred to the call of caller on their way back to home; the Depot officials are not aware of it.]

  • Seeing the flask not belonging to their brother, they said: "If he steals, so had his mother-born brother stolen, aforetimes."

  • Thereat, Yu'suf [alai'his'slaam] kept it secret to himself that he is his brother; and he did not reveal it for them.

  • He said to them: "You are irritant, with regard to taking a bad stance-position —

  • And Allah the Exalted knows well what you are concocting." [12:77]

  • You people turn to your father; thereat on confronting him say: "O our father, indeed your son stole; and we have not testified to you except what we have known —

  • And we were not the protectors [as per our pledge and your quoted exception] for the unforeseen — [12:81]

  • Except [regard to safety] that he who listened something clandestinely, thereupon, a visibly piercing, shone and intensely glistened fire ball-Comet followed him. [read with 67:05]  [15:18]

  • O you the Elevated and Chosen One [Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam]—

  • When believing women have arrived/migrated to you making themselves solemnly pledge before you to the effect that they will not associate with Allah anything—

  • And nor they will steal, and nor they will indulge in consented sexual intercourse and nor they will kill their offspring—

  • And nor they will allege false allegations forging it with reference to between/middle of their hands and middle of their feet/legs—

  • And nor will refuse your word in the known and accepted norms of society —

  • Thereupon/as a result you accept their fealty [in exchange of promise of award of Paradise] and for these women seek forgiveness from Allah the Exalted.

  • It is a fact that Allah the Exalted is repeatedly Forgiving-Overlooking-the fountain of Mercy.  [60:12]

  • یقینا اللہ تعالیٰ  درگزر اور پردہ پوشی کرنے اور معاف فرمانے والے ہیں، منبع رحمت ہیں۔
