Ibn Faris [died 1005] stated:

(مقاييس اللغة)

 الْمِيمُ وَالرَّاءُ وَالدَّالُ أَصْلٌ صَحِيحٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى تَجْرِيدِ الشَّيْءِ مِنْ قِشْرِهِ أَوْ مَا يَعْلُوهُ مِنْ شَعْرِهِ. وَالْأَمْرَدُ: الشَّابُّ لَمْ تَبْدُ لِحْيَتُهُ

That it leads to the perception of depriving or expropriating/stripping the thing of its its skin/husk or that which exalts it from its main cognition. And it refers a person in youth who attained not the beard.
