Ibn Faris [died 1005] stated:

(مقاييس اللغة)

 النُّونُ وَالْفَاءُ وَالرَّاءُ: أَصْلٌ صَحِيحٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى تَجَافٍ وَتَبَاعُدٍ

That it leads to the perception of: aversion, disaffection, disgust, repugnance and to turn away from, avoid, to abandon, desert, alienate, estrange, and shunning.

Lane Lexicon:  He took fright and fled, or ran away at random; or became refractory, and went away at random; or ran away, or broke loose, and went hither and thither by reason of his sprightliness. Aversion, become averse.

  • O those people who have proclaimed to have believed in the Messenger and Qur’ān, listen;

  • !اے وہ لوگوں جنہوں نے رسول کریم (محمّد ﷺ)اور قرءان مجید پرایمان لانے کا اقرارو اعلان کیا ہے توجہ سے سنو

  • You people acquire vigilantly all your precautionary measures-weaponry/armor. Thereby for reason of infliction of war you either move out [with light and heavy weapons-9:41] in formation of companies; or you move out collectively [depending upon situation and strategy] [4:71]

  • ۔تم لوگ میدان جنگ میں جانے کے لئے حفاظتی لباس پہن لو۔چونکہ جنگ مسلط کر دی گئی ہے اس لئے حکمت عملی کے تحت چاہے دستوں کی صورت روانہ ہو یا چاہے اجتماعی انداز میں کوچ کرو۔

  • O those people who have proclaimed to have believed in the Messenger and Qur’ān, listen;

  • !اے وہ لوگوں جنہوں نے رسول کریم (محمّد ﷺ)اور قرءان مجید پرایمان لانے کا اقرارو اعلان کیا ہے توجہ سے سنو

  • What is the problem and excuse for you people that you became heavier towards earth/stick to earth/kept sitting at home when it was said for you: "move out in the cause of Allah the Exalted"?

  • ۔کیا جواز اور استدلال تم لوگ اپنے دفاع کے لئے پیش کر سکتے ہو جب تم لوگوں کے لئے یہ اعلان کیا گیا تھا"اللہ تعالیٰ  کے دین کے دفاع  کے لئے جنگ میں شرکت کے لئےتم لوگ باہر نکل کر مجتمع ہو جاؤ"تو تم نے اپنے آپ کو زمین کی جانب بوجھل بنا لیا تھا۔

  • Are you people pleased with the worldly life instead of truly living life of the Hereafter?

  • ۔کیا تم لوگ آخرت کی مطلق حیات کے بدلے حیات دنیا سے پیوست رہنے پر رضامند ہو گئے ہو۔

  • If so then know that the sustenance of the worldly life is but little in relation to the abundance in the Hereafter. [9:38]

  • ۔اگر ایسا ہے تو جان لو کہ حیات دنیا کے اسباب اورلوازمات ہر لحاظ سے قلیل ہیں آخرت کی مطلق حیات میں فراوانی کے بالمقابل۔


  • Should you people not move out in the cause of Allah the Exalted, He would punish you with severe punishment —

  • ۔متنبہ رہو؛اگر تم لوگ اللہ تعالیٰ کے دین کے دفاع کی خاطر جنگ کا سامنا کرنے نہیں نکلو گے تو وہ جناب تمہیں دردناک عذاب میں مبتلا کر دیں گے۔

  • And He would replace with a nation unrelated to you people and you would not cause not at all harm to Him the Exalted.

  • ۔اوراس امکان سے بھی متنبہ رہو کہ وہ جناب ایک قوم کوجو تم سے مختلف  ہے متبادل مقتدر بنانے کا ارادہ کر لیں۔اور تم لوگ اسے قطعاً کسی قسم کا ضرر پہنچانے کے قابل نہیں ہو گے۔

  • Remain cognizant: Allah the Exalted has eternally the power over each and all matters to keep them subjugated by measure and equations. [9:39]

  • اوریقیناًاللہ تعالیٰ ہر ایک شئے اور معاملے کو پیمانوں میں مقید کرنے پر ہمیشہ سے قادر ہیں۔ 


  • [for reason of infliction of war] You people are directed to move out with light and heavy weapons —

  • And to strive with your wealth and by your physical participation in the cause of Allah the Exalted.

  • This is the best course prescribed for you people if you were really understanding it. [9:41]


  • The stragglers rejoiced in their homes, acting contrarily in opposition to the Messenger of Allah the Exalted —

  • And they were aversive to striving by their finances and by physical participation in the cause of Allah the Exalted —

  • And advised others saying:  "You people should not go forth in highly warm weather."

  • You the Messenger [Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam] pronounce: "The fire of Hell-Prison is much intense with regard to degree of temperature."

  • This information could benefit them only if they had tried to understand it. [9:81]


  • Take note, it were not possible for the Believers that they might go congregative out of hometown;

  • For reason of above impracticability the objective could be achieved by a party, constituted by drawing literate persons from every clan of them, the believers, having left:

  • For the purpose that they might develop self-awareness-global expertise regarding knowledge and understanding of the physical system-code of conduct-culture-managerial attitudes and behaviours-advancements in worldly knowledge by other nations:

  • And so that they awaken and update their own people when they have returned back to them:

  • This acquirement of knowledge and understanding may render them vigilant to take necessary precautions-preparations. [9:122]


  • After a lapse of time, Our Majesty revived for you the position over them —

  • And Our Majesty reinforced you with wealth and sons —

  • And Our Majesty rendered you numerous, demographically. [17:06]


  • Appreciate the fact that Our Majesty have illustrated in this Qur’ān issues and concepts, mirroring information by rotation in alternate directions, angles, and perspectives. Its objective is that they might at their own conveniently save, recall, relate and take lesson —

  • But the fact remains that it increases in them nothing but running away aversively. [17:41]


  • And Our Majesty have rendered that what they claim covers upon their hearts as protection that hinders them comprehending it (Qur’ān).

  • ۔اور ہم جناب نے  ان کے اپنے بقول ان کے دلوں پر پڑےغلاف  کوڈھال (زنگ)بنا دیا ہے کہ وہ اسے (قرءان مجید) سمجھ سکیں۔۔

  • And Our Majesty have rendered their so called (41:5) heavy load deposited within their ears as acoustic impedance persisting in their ears.

  • ۔اور ایک بوجھ  ان کے اپنے بقول (فصلت۔5)ان کے کانوں میں ایسا ہے جو سماعت میں مانع ہے۔

  • And when you the Messenger described your Sustainer Lord in the Qur’ān as: "He is the only Sustainer Lord":

  • They about-faced on their backs in grip of aversion. [17::46]


  • And fruits were a source of affluence for him —

  • Thereby puffed with pride he said to his companion while he was discussing with him —

  • "I am in abundant affluence than you with regard to wealth, and I am more dominant by manpower." [18:34]


  • And when it was said to them: "you people prostrate exclusively for Ar'Reh'maan the Exalted" —

  • They [sarcastically] replied, "Ar'Reh'maan! What?—

  • Should we prostrate exclusively what you are commanding us?"

  • And it increased them, with regard to their aversion to Monotheism. [25:60] [Please prostrate]


  • And they swore by Allah the Exalted their exerted pledges:

  • That if a Warner/Admonisher/Revivalist comes to them they would thenceforth certainly be more guided than any one of the generations/nations.

  • Thereat when the Warner/Admonisher/Revivalist has come to them it increased in them nothing but running away aversively — [35:42]


  • Moreover, recall when Our Majesty diverted a group of individuals of Species Jinn to come to you the Messenger [Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam] so that they may attentively listen the Qur’ān.

  • Thereby, when they had reached for it they said, "Keep yourself in state of quiet both inwardly and outwardly."
  • ۔اور اس دوران تم لوگ اپنے آپ کو مکمل سکوت کی حالت میں رکھو ایسے کہ کسی دوسرے خیال کو بھی دل ودماغ میں نہیں لانا۔

  • Thereat, when recitation was completed, they turned back to their nation/people to beware them. [46:29]

  • Or who is this one that will provide you sustenance if He the Exalted (Ar'Reh'maan) held back His sustenance?

  • Nay, there is none, but the fact is they persisted/kept rising in brimming out of bounds in defiance and running away aversively.. [67:21]

  • You the Messenger [Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam] pronounce: "It has verbally been communicated to me that a sound-heated serious party belonging to the species Jinn attentively listened Qur’ān from me (read for elisions with 46:26)—

  • آپ(ﷺ)ارشاد فرمائیں"میری جانب اس اطلاع کو وحی فرمایا گیا ہے , وہ یہ کہ معشر الجن میں سے ایک  سنجیدہ  قلب سلیم والی جماعت نے انتہائی توجہ،انہماک اور خلوص سے قرءان مجید کو مجھ سے سنا تھا۔(محذوف کے لئے الاحقاف۔26 دیکھیں)

  • Thereby, (after attentively listening they went back to their people) they said: " Indeed We have listened a discourse; it is amazing - uniquely remarkable effective compilation — [72:01]

  • سماعت کے بعد انہوں نے اپنی قوم سے جا کر کہا تھا"یہ حقیقت ہے کہ ہم نے  ایک تعجب خیز،انوکھے بیان/متن کو سنا ہے۔(الجن۔1)
