Ibn Faris [died 1005] stated:

النون والباء والتاء أصلٌ واحدٌ يدلُّ على نماءٍ في مزروع، ثم يستعار. فالنَّبت معروف

That it leads to the perception of growth and development of plant kingdom, thereby it is well known as sprouting of plants.

All plant kingdom which is the produce of the Earth. Plant, vegetation, seedling, to sprout, germinate, to shoot out, to grow, to birth out, to cultivate, to cause to grow, to raise, to become of age,

  • Keep tracing the past; when you people said: "O Mūsā, we might no more tolerate one kind of meal —

  • اور (اے بنی اسرئیل یاد کرو) جب تم لوگوں نے کہا تھا”اے موسیٰ(علیہ السلام)! ہم سے ایک ہی طرح کے طعام پر صبرنہیں ہوتا۔

  • Therefore, beseech your Sustainer Lord for us that He should cause-arrange for us that which the Earth grows —

  •  اِس لئے اپنے رب سے ہمارے لئے دعا کریں کہ ہمارے لئے وہ مہیا کرے جسے زمین اگاتی ہے

  •  Its vegetable-herbs, and its cucumbers, and its grains, and its lentils, and its onions."
  • اُس کی سبزیاں / ساگ، کھیرے ککڑی، اُس کا اناج/ گیہوں، اُس کی مسور، اُس کی پیازمیں سے“۔

  • He (Mūsā alahissalam) said; "Are you people seeking replacement which is inferior in place of that which is better one?

  • انہوں (موسیٰ علیہ السلام)نے کہا”کیا تم اُس طعام کو جوزیادہ بہتر ہے اُس شئے سے بدلنا چاہتے ہو جونسبتاً ادنیٰ ہے؟

  • [Okay] Go you down to a city, whereby there is certainly for you that which you have asked".

  • پہاڑی علاقے سے)نیچے /پستی کی جانب بستی میں اترو تو پھر تمہیں یقینا وہ سب ملے گا جس کا تم سوا ل کر رہے ہو“۔)

  • Beware, dependence - subjugation - remaining under-patronage and disdain - contemptibility is struck upon them as distinguished feature.

  • جان لو ان کے متعلق یہ حقیقت۔ اُن پر زیر سرپرستی رہنے،دوسروں پر انحصار کرنے اور سکونت کی محتاجی مسلط کر دی گئی ہے۔

  • And they have made their selves liable to criminal cognizance - arrest by decree of Allah the Exalted.

  • اورانہوں نے اپنے آپ کومجرمانہ جانکاری کے مستحق بنا لیا ہے ا للہ تعالیٰ کی جانب سے گرفت میں لئے جانے کے۔

  • This eventuality is because they persistently refused to accept the Aa'ya'at: Verbal passages of the Book of Allah the Exalted —

  • یہ فیصلہ اِس لئے ہوا کہ انہوں نے اللہ تعالیٰ کی آیتوں سے انکار کو اپنی سرشت بنائے رکھا۔

  • And this eventuality is because they kept indulging in character assassination of: the Chosen and elevated Allegiants of Allah the Exalted by contrary to fact slanderous and libellous statements to distance them from people's reverence —

  • اور اس بناء پر کہ وہ حقیقت کے منافی باتوں سے نبیوں کی کردار کشی،تحقیر و توہین کرتے اور انہیں زچ کرتے تھے۔

  • This attitude was because they did not accept the Word and purposely kept transgressing and going beyond prescribed limits. [2:61]

  • آپ جان لیں،یہ اس وجہ سے کرتے تھے کہ انہوں نے اُن(نبیوں) کی بات کوماننے سے انکار کر دیا تھا
    اور دوری اختیار کرتے/حد سے نکل جانے کی روش کو انہوں نے اپنائے رکھا۔

  • The equation of outcome-benefit of a donation of those who heartily spend their financial resources in the cause of Allah the Exalted is —

  • ان لوگوں کی منفعت /اضافہ کی مثال جو اپنے اموال کو اللہ تعالیٰ کی راہ میں خرچ کرتے رہتے ہیں۔

  • Like a single grain that germinated seven shoots. One hundred grains are embedded in every shoot.

  • اناج کے ایک دانے سے حاصل کردہ منافع /اضافہ کے مثل ہے جس نے سات شاخیں /بالیں پیدا کیں۔جن کی خصوصیت یہ تھی کہ ایک سو دانے ہر ایک ایک بالی میں پیدا ہوئے۔

  • Know it (that above is s a general proposition) Allah the Exalted even further enlarges the outcome for whoever He wills.

  • اور اللہ تعالیٰ  جس کسی کے متعلق ایسا فیصلہ کرتے ہیں اس کے لئے مزید اضافے پر اضافہ کرتے ہیں۔

  • Moreover remember; Allah the Exalted has domain beyond bounds-limits; fountain of knowledge - setter of sciences - all-Knowing.  [2:261]

  • اور یاد رہے،اللہ تعالیٰ کے صاحب علم ہونے کی وسعت لامحدود ہے۔

  • Thereupon, her (Maryam's mother) Sustainer Lord accepted her (Maryem) for special service, quiet graceful and well merited acceptance.

  • (اس بے لوث جذبے کی قدر فرماتے ہوئے)اس(مریم کی والدہ)کے رب نے اسے(مریم)اپنے خاص مقصد  کی تکمیل کے لئے قبول فرما لیا، یہ باوقار مستحق شرف قبولیت تھا۔

  • And He the Exalted caused her (Maryan) rearing, in the style and manner of nicely reared plants.

  • اور ان جناب  نےاسے (مریم)کواس انداز میں پرورش پانے دیا جیسے توجہ سے خوبصورت پودوں کو پروان چڑھایا جاتا ہے،؛موزونیت اور وقار کی جانب بڑھتے ہوئے۔

  • And He the Exalted assigned to Zakaria [alai'his'slaam] the responsibility of her guardianship.

  • اور ان جناب نے اسے(مریم) زکریا (علیہ السلام)کی ذمہ داری میں دیا تھا(اگرچہ کفیل بننے کے اور بھی خواہش مند تھے)۔

  • Whenever Zakaria [alai'his'slaam] had entered the secluded chamber of the Mosque to meet her, he had always found by her side some eatables.

  • ہر بار جب زکریا (علیہ السلام)مخصوص حجرے میں ان سے ملاقات کے لئے داخل ہوئے انہوں نے ان کے پاس کھانے پینے کی اشیاء کو موجود پایا تھا۔

  • [one day] He (Zakaria) asked; "O Maryam! how and from where this sustenance comes for you?"

  • (ایک دن)انہوں نے پوچھا’’اے مریم!یہ(خوردونوش کی جانب اشارہ کرتے ہوئے)کیسے اور کہاں سے آپ کے لئے آتا ہے؟‘‘

  • She (Maryam) replied: "That is supplied by the grace of Allah the Exalted.

  • اس(مریم)نے جواب دیا’’وہ اللہ تعالیٰ کی جانب سے عنایت ہے۔

  • Indeed, Allah the Exalted provides sustenance for whomever He decides, without reckoning and causality." [3:37]

  • یہ حقیقت ہے کہ اللہ تعالیٰ جس کسی کے لئے  ایسا کرنا مناسب سمجھتے ہیں اسے   حساب وکتاب اورعلت و معلول سے ماوراءسامان زیست عنایت فرماتے ہیں‘‘۔

  • And He the Exalted is the One Who dropped water from the Sky —

  • Thereby, Our Majesty had germinated vegetation-herbage of entire plant kingdom by using it (water).

  • Thereby, Our Majesty discharged from it (the sprouted plant) green pigment - chlorophyll; its characteristic is that We produce-take out of it superposed seed/grain—eventual reproductive success of the plant.

  • And clusters spikes/spadices of dates are brought out from the spathe—leafy sheath bract of date-palm tree —

Root: ط ل ع; ق ن و

  • And sprouted gardens of species-family of grapes; and olives; and pomegranates —

Root: ر م ن;  ع ن ب

  • Apparently they are analogous/have conforming features; but are mutually non-resembling —

Root: ش ب ه

  • You people watch-study its (his; tree of grapes, olives, and pomegranates) fruit when it has bore fruit, and watch its (fruit's) ripening.

  • Indeed signs indicating the existence of the Creator and Setter of sciences are obvious in the foretasted existents (plant kingdom) for the people who believe in Allah the Exalted.  [6:99]

  • Realize it; the land unit with defined boundaries which is characteristically: rich in nutrients, fertile - pleasantly beneficial: its vegetations come out by the Will of its Sustainer Lord.

  • And the land unit with defined boundaries that has experienced qualitative degradation -infertility: it does not expel something worthwhile; it brings out but picayune.

  • Like this physically observable reality, Our Majesty elaborate the verbal passages (of Qur'an) in interchanging pattern - alternatives for the people who acknowledge and express gratitude-appreciation,  [7:58]

  • The analogy of the life of this lowly world is merely like the water that Our Majesty has descended from the Sky —

  • Thereby, the produce-embryonic plant of the Earth meticulously associated with it —

  • Human beings and the herbivore mammals eat out of it —

  • Flourishing of plants continued until when the Land attained its bloomy embellishment and became fascinating; and her inhabitants thought they were capable to manage her:

  • Root: ز خ ر ف 

  • Our command reached to it either during the night or the day, whereat Our Majesty rendered her (produce of land) mowed as if it had not flourished yesterday.

  • This is the manner Our Majesty renders the signs - verbal passages of Qur’ān distinct by demarcating, categorizing, delineating and individuating all aspects for people who objectively ponder and reflect. [10:24]

  • And the Earth, Our Majesty did spread/stretch her —

  • And Our Majesty placed-dropped therein anchored/stabilizing mountains —

Mountains - Anchors were inserted in the Earth; an "imported" substance.  Root: ر س و

  • And Our Majesty sprouted in her (Earth), each and every thing mutually equated and balanced — [15:19]

  • He the Exalted produces-sprouts with it (water), for the benefit of you people, the cultivated grain-crops [family: grasses] —

  • And olives and date-palms and grapes —

  • And plants of all other types of fruits —

  • Indeed a sign indicating the existence of the Creator and Setter of sciences is obvious in the aforementioned fact for the people who have the habit of reflecting objectively to arrive at the purpose of creation. [16:11]

  • And You the Messenger [Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam] strike-quote for them the equation and resemblance of the Worldly Life —

  • It is alike the water which Our Majesty have dropped from the Sky —

  • Thereby, the produce-embryonic plant of the Earth meticulously associated with it —

  • Thereafter, the produce of Earth became dried stalk; winds scatter it here and there.

  • Realize it, Allah the Exalted has always been exercising command and control over each and all physical realm. [18:45]

  • He the Exalted is the One Who has rendered the Earth plain, smooth and soft like child's bed for you people —

  • And He the Exalted had run within her paths/passages for travel for you people —

Root: س ل ك

  • And He the Exalted descended certain quantity of water from the Sky —

  • Thereby with it (water) Our Majesty have sprouted - produced various species - couples of herbs - plants — [20:53]

  • O you the Mankind! Listen;

  • If you people have been cast in irritating confusion regarding the resurrection—revival of life:

  • Then why don't you reflect on origin of life; Our Majesty indeed created you people initially corporeally structured with substances of clay drawn from dust —

  • Afterwards, Our Majesty created you from a segment of a sperm —

The procreation of Man - Anisogamy

  • Afterwards, from the joined, implanted/clung clot [zygote-Greek "zogotus" meaning "joined"] —

  • Afterwards from chewed like morsel of flesh —

Root: م ض غ

  • It (zygote) is of two types, one made to be created [the zygote joined with womb's wall] and the other opposite of that which is created [the zygote joined with fallopian tube wall-ectopic pregnancy, not to be created but to scatter]—

  • It is mentioned so that Our Majesty might make manifest for you [that only that gets created whom We wish to create].


  • And We implant-make those reside in the wombs whom Our Majesty so will, towards a determined length of time with appointed termination moment.

  • Afterwards the lapse of appointed duration Our Majesty discharge you as an infant.


Root: ط ف ل

  • Afterwards, Our Majesty keep developing you to cross over to your strengthen maturity.

  • Thereat, there is someone of strengthen maturity amongst you who is alienated [because of natural death, murder or alive who is killed in Allah's cause]—

  • And, there is some matured person among you who is made to return backwards to the most dependent-feeble of the period of life-nethermost-non verbal infancy —

Alzheimer is not a disease, but a phenomenon   Root: ر ذ ل; ع م ر

  • The explanation-symptom-effect of regression is that thenceforth he traces-retrieves not knowledge of something, after having attained knowledge.

  • Realize it that you see certain Soil giving look of sterile-cracked-compacted and still. Thereat, when Ourr Majesty sent upon her water, she became thrilled and she swelled [These are not literary expressions but narration of physical facts-Qur’ān is a statement of absolute fact] —

  • And thereby she produced- sprouted every kind of beautiful species of plants. [22:05]

  • And Our Majesty Majesty produced a fruit-bearing tree, it springs forth in some area of the Mountain Range of  Peninsula of Sinai —

  • اور ہم جناب نے تم لوگوں کے لئے ایک اور پھلدار درخت کوپیدا کیا ہے۔اس کی خصوصیت یہ ہے  کہ  وہ جزیرہ نما سینائے کے طویل سلسلہ کوہ طور میں سے نکلتی ہے۔

  • Her other characteristic is that she (the Olive tree) grows accompanied with the oil, and a colouring - pigmentation substance beneficial for the eaters. [23:20]

  • ۔یہ اس حال میں زمین سے اگتی ہے کہ مخصوص تیل ملحق ہوتا ہے،اور سفید کو رنگنے کی صلاحیت کی حامل کھانے والوں کے لئے۔

  • Have they not seen—considered and reflected about the Earth —

  • As to how many Our Majesty have sprouted therein every sort of par excellence pairing. [26:07]

  • Or [to say it in other words] who created the Skies and the Earth—

  • And He dropped water from the Sky for you people—

  • Whereupon with that water Our Majesty caused the buds - Eye's iris like structure, embryonic shoots, which are the possessor of prime [condition of great freshness and health] to develop-grow —

  • It was not possible for you people that you could grow her woody shoots.

  • [Just see a bud and reflect] Is there any iela'aha: godhead along with Allah the Exalted?

  • No, there is no iela'aha: godhead along with Allah, but yet they are the people who ascribe equals with their Sustainer Lord. [27:60]

  • He the Exalted created the Skies. Its creation is circumstantially with supports other than pillars. You people are seeing the Skies elevated as such without pillars.

  • And He the Exalted placed in the Land anchored/stabilizing mountains that she (Earth) may not shake with you people —

Mountains - Anchors were inserted in the Earth; an "imported" substance.  Root: ر س و;  م ى د

  • And that He the Exalted spread all kinds of animals in it —

  • اور انہوں نے اس(حیات بخش)زمین میں ہر طرح کے جانور پھیلا دیئے۔

Root: د ب ب

  • And Our Majesty have dropped water from the Sky —

  • Whereby Our Majesty have sprouted/grew therein from each and every par excellence pairing. [31:10]

  • Infinitely Glorious - Whose approval is the focus of all effort - is the One Who created the pairs, all of them with no exception —

Root: ز و ج;  خ ل ق

  • In that which the Earth sprouts-germinates [Plant Kingdom] —

  • And likewise pair in that which germinates from their selves —

  • And created pairs in those things about which they have no knowledge. [36:36]

  • Where Our Majesty had grown upon it a tree from species gourd [perhaps its beverage was effective for quick recovery]. [37:146]

  • And the Earth, Our Majesty did spread/stretch her —

      History of the Earth

  • And Our Majesty placed therein anchored/stabilizing mountains —

      Mountains - Anchors were inserted in the Earth; an "imported" substance.  Root: ر س و

  • And Our Majesty sprouted in her, each and every thing mutually equated and balanced; and We produced/sprouted therein every kind of beautiful species of plants. [50:07]

  • Moreover, Our Majesty have intermittently flowed water from the Sky, peculiarity of which is that it is quantitatively perpetuated —

  • Thereby, Our Majesty sprouted  with this water gardens and the cultivated grain crops which are reaped — [50:09]

  • You people must know/understand that the life of this lowly world is like short lived theatrical play and amusement and attraction—

  • And mutual boasting between you and race for increase in the wealth and progeny/strength—

  • Like the example of rain; the resulting sprouting of crops which made the tiller pleasingly wonder—

  • After a lapse of time it experiences phase of excitement and shrivel, thereupon you see it golden yellowish. Afterwards it would become thrashed-fragmented.

  • And in the Hereafter is in wait a severe punishment —

  • And [for others] the forgiveness and protection and the appreciations and approvals of Allah the Exalted.

  • And the life of this lowly world is but wherewithal of deceptive hopes/enjoyment. [57:20]

  • Know it, Allah the Exalted had caused you people to sprout-become alive from the Earth; the process alike sprouting of plants from a seed. [71:17]

  • (اور اللہ تعالیٰ نے تم لوگوں کوزمین میں سے پیدا/صاحب حیات کیانباتات کو حیات دینے کے انداز میں۔(سورۃ نوح ؑ۔۱۷

  • So that Our Majesty might cause the growth/exit/sprouting/germination of plant family/crops of  grains [Family: grasses-monocotyledon] and foliage/plants of all sorts — [78:15]

  • Thereby, Our Majesty made visible/produced the sprout of grain crop/grasses ( grass; cereal crops, grains; Division: Angiosperm; Class: Liliopsida; Monocotyledonous) — [80:27]
