Ibn Faris [died 1005] stated:

(مقاييس اللغة)

 الزاء واللام أصل مطّرد منقاسٌ في المضاعَف، وكذلك في كل زاءٍ بعدها لامٌ في الثلاثي. وهذا من عجيب هذا الأصل. تقول: زلَّ عن مكانه زَليلاً وزَلاًّ. والزَّلَّة: الخطأ؛ لأن المخطئ زلَّ عن نَهْج الصَّواب

That it signifies moving away, stumble fall back, recede; it is said he slipped from his place; and it denotes to err, commit mistake because it streaks away from the righteous course/approach.

It signifies a man's immoderate and unconstraint attitude in casual manner, without conscious decision.

زَلَّ السَّهْمُ عن الدِّرْع، والإِنسانُ عن الصَّخْرة

That it signifies arrow, dart slipping down from armour, corselet; and the man from rock.

Lane's Lexicon:  Thou slippedst (K) in mud, or in speech, (SK,) or in judgment, or opinion, or in religion: (TA:) or you say, زَلَّ عَنْ مَكَانِهِ, aor. يَزِلُّ, inf. n. زَلٌّ [&c. as above]; and زَلَّ, aor. يَزَلُّ, inf. n. زَلَلٌ; the former verb of the class of ضَرَبَ; and the latter, of the class of تَعِبَ; meaning he, or it, moved away, or aside, [or slipped,] from his, or its, place:

  • کیونکہ ہم جناب نے اُن سے کہاتھا’’تم لوگ نیچے (زمین پر)جاؤ۔

  • Some of you people will be acting as enemy for some other —

  • وہاں پر بھی)تم لوگوں میں سے بعض بعض کے دشمن ہوں گے۔)

 

  • Know it, comfortable dwelling and livelihood - sustenance is arranged in the Earth for you people for a duration to an appointed moment of termination". [2:36]

  • [اور آرام دہ جائے رہائش اور سامان زیست کا تم لوگوں کے لئے زمین میں ایک مقررہ مدت کیلئے انتظام کر دیا گیاہے‘‘ [البقرۃ۔۳۶


  • Thereby, if you people slipped - stumbled after that which has since been brought to you by the succinct explicative Verbal Passages-Aay'aat (showing the way of Muslims and opposite path of the criminals/Muejremeen) —

  • اس لئے(اس حکم اور اطلاع کے باوجود)اگر تم لوگ فریفتگی میں پھسل گئے،اصل سے ہٹ گئے  بعداُس کے  جوواضح آیات تم کو پہنچا چکی ہیں

  • Then the consequence you people must know that Allah the Exalted is the All Pervasive-Dominant and the Infinitely Just Supreme Administrator of the created realms. [2:209]

  • تو جان لو کہ اللہ تعالیٰ  دائمی،ہر لمحہ،ہرمقام پرحتماً غالب ہیں۔ اور بدرجہ اتم انصاف پسند تمام موجود کائنات کے فرمانروا اور تمام پنہاں کو جاننے والے ہیں۔


  • The fact about those who had returned back to city amongst you on the day the two forces lined up fronting:

  • Shai'taan had indeed made them reflexively slip partially because of that which they had earlier sought.

  • And be aware that Allah the Exalted has indeed since overlooked and excused them.

  • The fact remains that Allah the Exalted is eternally imperturbably over looking and forgiver of faults, wrong doings and omissions. [3:155]


  • Take note, you people should not purposely employ your scholarly authority to intellectually corrupt-confuse the society; thereby some foot might slip after it had firmly established on the straight path —

  • And you may have to suffer agony for having hindered-diverted people from the High road of Allah the Exalted —
