What is the perception and meaning of giving life to earth/land after its death? Relation of Water {masculine} and Earth {feminine} Plant kingdom in Quran
We have earlier read that by sprinkling water from the sky, Allah gives "life" to a land after its "death". We know that death causes halt to activity and life revives the activity. It has been explained that giving life to earth means reviving activity in it by sending water.
"And from sky sent water and with that He took out from variety of fruits/shrubs, as your means of subsistence" {Refer 2:22; 14:32}
"And He is the One Who sent water from the sky and with it {him} sprouted vegetation/herbage of all sort {plant kingdom}" {Refer 6:99}
{the parable of worldly life is}" like as We sent water from sky and with it produced plant life of the earth which is eaten by people and cattle {herbivores}" {Refer 10:24}
"And explain them the reality of worldly life with the example it is like as "We sent water from sky and with it produced plant life of the earth " {Refer 18:45}
"And sent water from the sky and with that water We produced various species/couples of herbs. Eat yourselves and pasture your cattle {herbivore}" {Refer 20:53-54} نَبَاتَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ and نَبَاتُ ٱلأَرْضِ denote the entire plant kingdom. The relationship, love and affection between water and earth is explained in these words:
"And you see the earth sterile/cracked/dead but when We send upon her water she thrilled with freshness and swelled and produced every kind of beautiful species of plants" {Refer 22:05}
"And from His signs you see the earth contracted, dried, cracked but when We sent water upon her she thrilled with freshness and swelled" {Refer 41:39}

YUSUFALI: And do they not see that We do drive rain to
parched soil (bare of herbage), and produce therewith crops, providing
food for their cattle and themselves? Have they not the vision?
"And We sent water heavily showering from the squeezer fluffy clouds; that We may with that bring out grain crops and plants {all sort}" {Refer 78:14-15}
"He brought from it its {stored} water and its pasture; provision for you and for your cattle" {Refer 79:31,33} نَبَاتَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ and نَبَاتُ ٱلأَرْضِ denote the entire plant kingdom. Then it is told about that kind of plants which grow to produce حَبّاً مُّتَرَاكِبا, grain which lie one above another.
then We took out from it that whose trait is green pigment {chlorophyll} from which We take out seeds/grains in heaps" {Refer 6:99} The first step is that with water " نَبَات" herbage of all sort is sprouted from earth. And the second step is that from the " نَبَات" {sprouted herbage} "خَضِراً " is brought out. And the third step is that from this "خَضِراً " seed/grain is brought out in abundance. خَضِرا Root: صفت مشبه : خ ض ر Blessed in a thing meaning an article, or means of sustenance; soft, tender; Greenness; a green color; a color between black and white: it is in plants and in animals. خَضِراً with reference to plants has been clarified that it does not merely mean green color:
"and seven stalk green, and the other seven stalk dry "

has been compared with
a dry stalk. It is not comparison with reference
to color but a dry stalk denotes one which is dead.
"And there is not a grain/seed in the darkness {underneath} of earth, neither any wet nor any dry thing except written in a manifest book" {6:59} On sprouting, appearing on the surface of earth as نَبَات, Chlorophyll, the pigment found in plants gives them their green color and that absorbs the light necessary for photosynthesis. Chlorophyll is a large molecule composed mostly of carbon and hydrogen. At the center of the molecule is a single atom of magnesium surrounded by a nitrogen-containing group of atoms called a porphyrin ring. The structure somewhat resembles that of the active constituent of hemoglobin in the blood. A long chain of carbon and hydrogen atoms proceeds from this central core and attaches the chlorophyll molecule to the inner membrane of the chloroplast, the cell organelle in which photosynthesis takes place. As a molecule of chlorophyll absorbs a photon of light, its electrons become excited and move to higher energy levels. This initiates a complex series of chemical reactions in the chloroplast that enables the energy to be stored in chemical bonds. Chlorophyll absorbs mainly violet-blue and orange-red light. The great abundance of chlorophyll in leaves and its occasional presence in other plant tissues, such as stems, causes these plant parts to appear green. Photosynthesis occurs in green plants because of the chlorophyll. These produce millions of new glucose molecules per second. Plants use much of this glucose, a carbohydrate, as an energy source to build leaves, flowers, fruits, and seeds/grain. They also convert glucose to cellulose, the structural material used in their cell walls. Most plants produce more glucose than they use, however, and they store it in the form of starch and other carbohydrates in roots, stems, and leaves. The plants can then draw on these reserves for extra energy or building materials.
"Do you not see {reflect/study/investigate} that Allah sends water from the sky because of which the earth becomes {active participial} source of greenery {life/photosynthesis}" {Refer 22:63}
"Allah is the One Who made from the Green Tree the fire/energy/radiation/fuel for you so that when you need you take from it heat supply" {Refer 36:80}
"Have you reflected/considered about the fire which you kindle? Are you who had grown its tree/ fuel or We are the One who grow that? {Refer 56:71-72} Light, form of energy visible to the human eye that is radiated by moving charged particles. Light from the Sun provides the energy needed for plant growth. Plants convert the energy in sunlight into storable chemical form through a process called photosynthesis. Quran has declared the green plants which were grown by Allah in the past as the source/fuel of fire. And today we know that petroleum, coal, and natural gas are the remains of plants that lived millions of years ago, and the energy these fuels release when they burn is the chemical energy converted from sunlight. When animals digest the plants and animals they eat, they also release energy stored by photosynthesis. Classification of Plants: The Grand Quran while disclosing knowledge about the plant kingdom has also taken care of the chronological order of the growth of plants on earth. It started with the natural growth of plants producing fruits and then explained and named the grain crops which are cultivated by human beings.
The Grand Quran further unfolds the varying families/classification of plant kingdom:
{then We took out from it that whose trait is green pigment {chlorophyll} from which We take out seeds/grains in heaps}" and from date-palm from its couch-frame spikes {sheaths, spathes} take out clusters of dates; {Refer 6:99}
"And date-palms, and different cultivated grain crops {family grasses}" {Refer 6:141}
"And cultivated fields; and date-palm spikes, which are cropped" {Refer 26:148}
"And tall palm-trees, for them are couch-frame spikes {for قِنْوَانٌ دَانِيَة}" {Refer 50:10} The Date Palm is dioecious, having separate male and female plants.
He said, "You will as usual sow/cultivate for seven years continuously; then leave the grains in the ear of the reaped crop in excess of which you need to eat" {Refer 12:47}
"O our Sustainer Lord! I have made one of my offspring to dwell in the valley other than the one cultivable" {Refer 14:37}
and gardens of grapes and olives and pomegranates, metaphorically similar and other than metaphorically similar
look at their fruit when it bears fruit and when it ripens; in these things is information/knowledge/signs for people to believe" {Refer 6:99} The characteristic feature of angiosperms is the flower, the function of which is the reproduction of the plant through the development of seeds. Flowers are highly modified shoots made up of four fundamental parts arranged in separate series, or whorls, on specialized stem tips. The outer series consists of the sepals, which are modified leaves or bracts that are usually
"With it He produces for you the cultivated grain-crops {family: grasses} and olives" {Refer 16:11}
"two gardens of grape-vines and surrounded them with date palms; in between the two We placed cultivated grain-crop fields" {Refer 18:32}
"like a seed which sent out its blade/shoot/sprout, then strengthens it, because of which it becomes stout and then rise/stand upon its stem, delighting the farmers/sewers" {Refer 48:29}
"Have you seen/considered what you sow in the land? Are you the one who cause it sprout/grow? Or We are the One Who sprout/grow it? {Refer 56:63-63} 056.065 Angiosperm (Latin angi-, “enclosed”; Greek sperma, “seed”), common name for the division or phylum comprising flowering plants, the dominant form of plant life. Members of the division are the source of most of the food on which humans and other mammals rely and of many raw materials and natural products. Included in the division are most shrubs and herbs, most familiar trees except pines and other conifers, and specialized plants such as succulents, parasites, and aquatic types. Although about 230,000 species are known, many remain obscure. Flowering plants occupy almost every ecological situation and dominate most natural landscapes. About two-thirds occur in the Tropics, where they are rapidly being exterminated by human activities. Only about 1000 species are of major economic importance, and the bulk of the world’s food supply is derived from only 15. Many hundreds more could be useful if properly investigated and developed. Plants range in size from diminutive duckweeds only a few millimetres in length to the giant sequoias of California that reach 90 metres (300 feet) or more in height. Scientific classification: Angiosperm is the common name for the division Magnoliophyta. Angiosperms are divided into two classes, the Magnoliopsida and Liliopsida, popularly termed dicots and monocots, representing separate evolutionary lines that must have diverged early in the history of the group. The direct predecessors of angiosperms are thought to have been woody gymnosperms; certain woody groups of dicots (see Magnolia) are thought to be primitive angiosperms. Monocots are more advanced than dicots, and they evolved from a primitive dicot group Angiosperms are as important to humans as they are to other animals.
Angiosperms serve as the major source of food—either directly or
indirectly through consumption by herbivores—and, as mentioned above,
they are a primary source of consumer goods, such as building materials,
textile fibres, spices, herbs, and pharmaceuticals.
"And in the earth are tracts neighboring each other, and gardens of vines and fields sown and ploughed grain crop and palm trees
from seed/grain and other than seed/grain {suckers, off shoots, grafting}
which are watered with the same water, yet We have made in eating/taste/affect in them an individuality/distinction from one another;
Indeed in these fact there are signs/knowledge for people to reflect/ponder/analyze" {Refer 13:04}

Certainly Allah is the creator Who cause the seed-grain and the date-stone to split and sprout. He brings out a living from the dead/matter and takes out the dead/matter from the living" {Refer 6:95}
"And He is the One Who produces gardens of plants {with weak stems} trellised and other than trellised plants;
and of date-palm and different crops which you eat; and olives and pomegranates; metaphorically similar and others not metaphorically similar.
Eat from their fruits when they bore fruit" {Refer 6:141}
and fruit of every kind He made in pairs{Refer 13:03)
"And from the fruit of the date-palm and the vine, you adopt/acquire for intoxication and appropriate/decent sustenance/food" {Refer 16:67}

YUSUFALI: And We send the fecundating winds, then cause
the rain to descend from the sky, therewith providing you with water (in
abundance), though ye are not the guardians of its stores.
وَفِي ٱلأَرْضِ قِطَعٌ مُّتَجَاوِرَاتٌ وَجَنَّاتٌ مِّنْ أَعْنَابٍ وَزَرْعٌ وَنَخِيلٌ ٍ وَمِن ثَمَرَاتِ ٱلنَّخِيلِ وَٱلأَعْنَابِ تَتَّخِذُونَ مِنْهًُ clearly a design argument. The verse goes on as "and leads it through springs in the earth ". Is the build up of the underground water resources a necessity? One quotation of a text that I found on the internet about the underground water reservoirs says "In order to collect underground water resources it is very important to give water the chance to penetrate beneath the surface by means of cracks and similar openings in the upper levels of soil. Exactly here there is another miracle of creation to be witnessed because the upper surface of soil constitutes of such a kind of sandy layers so that water can easily penetrate below the surface into the deep until it hits another kind of soil which is argillaceous soil. This type of soil serves as a boundary to water and prevents it from diffusing further to the ground and enabling it to collect." As seen sandy soil Hadid/25 We sent aforetime our messengers with Clear Signs and sent down with them the Book and the Balance (of Right and Wrong), that men may stand forth in justice; and We sent down Iron, in which is great might, as well as many benefits for mankind, that Allah may test who it is that will help, Unseen, Him and His messengers: For Allah is Full of Strength, Exalted in Might. The verse continues as "then it withers;thou wilt see it grow yellow; then He makes it dry up and crumble away ".Drying up and dying of plants is a result of a design. In order to clarify the design lets look at this quote from the encyclopedia Britannica: "In summer,plants make and store food in their roots, stems, or seeds. In winter, they rest. Plants pass the winter in various ways. Annuals flower in the same season that they are planted. Then, transferring all their reserve food to their seeds, the plants wither and di e". Meaning that,they die because they are designed to transfer their reserve food to their seeds. This explains the phrase "thenHe makes it dry up and crumble away ". Itis again an argument from design. But more interesting is that the yellowing, withering part is left as a necessity in the verse. Infact it is a necessity that drying plants will wither and become yellow.
