Ibn Faris [died 1005] stated:

الدال والهاء والنون أصلٌ واحد يدلُّ على لِينٍ وسُهولةٍ وقِلَّة. من ذلك الدُّهْن.

That it leads to the perception of moderate, softness, and easiness, facility, and scarcity, littleness. It signifies grease, fat, oil, anointment.

Lane Lexicon:  He anointed it; oiled it; or greased it;

fat, grease, oil, to be oily, to be anoint, to act insincerely, compromising, reconciliatory, [oily makes things slippery, thus compromising-slipping away from the standpoint]

  • Therefore, you the Messenger [Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam] do not listen and accept the word of those who are perfidiously liars publicly contradicting the fact. [68:08]

  • They [with deceptive tactics] desired that somehow you incline to be little obliging/soft whereat in response they would apparently/deceptively compromise. [68:09]
