Lane Lexicon: He extirpated it, eradicated it, exterminated it, or destroyed it utterly; He gained, or earned, what is termed سُحْت [i.e. gain that was unlawful,

to eradicate, to scrape off, illicit earning, unlawful gain.

  • They are attentive listeners to the falsehood and fabrications; they are consumers of illicit and unlawful gains.

  • Therefore, if they come to you the Messenger [Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam]; thereat you decide amongst them or  ignore and avoid them.

  • And if you decided to avoid them; thereby [for reason that Allah's umbrella of mercy is upon you], they cannot do to you any worth mentioning harm of any sort.

  • And if you have decided to judge; thereat decide amongst them on the principle of equity and justice.

  • Indeed Allah the Exalted approves and appreciates for nearness those who conduct justly and equitably. [5:42]

  • And you will find majority of  them (Muna'fi'qeen) that they advance in dilapidating sinful activities and transgression; and in their consuming-acquiring illicit and unlawful gains.

  • Indeed abominable are the acts that they have been doing; result wise would indeed be frustrating for them. [5:62]

  • Why do the the rabbis and the intelligentsia/scholars [whom they visit in privacy] not forbid them from dilapidating sinful utterances; and about their consuming/acquiring illicit and unlawful gains?

  • Indeed abominable is what they artfully fabricate [false conjectural myths to mislead people]. [5:63]

  • Mūsā [alai'his'slaam] said to them (the magicians), "Woe is for you people; you should fabricate attributing to Allah the Exalted a falsehood whereby He the Exalted might destroy you with punishment —

 

  • And indeed he is abased whoever fabricated falsehood." [20:61]
