Ibn Faris [died 1005] stated:

اللَّامُ وَالْبَاءُ وَالثَّاءُ حَرْفٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى تَمَكُّثٍ

That it leads to the perception of stay in a place, remaining at a point, residing.

  • He pondered-questioned himself; "What would be the mode and manner when Allah the Exalted will revive-resurrect this township after its death?"

  • اس نے خود کلامی کرتے ہوئے سوچا کہ اللہ تعالیٰ اس بستی کو اس کی موت کے بعدکب اور کیسے ذی حیات فرمائیں گے۔

  • Thereby, responding his curiosity, Allah the Exalted caused his death for a period of hundred solar years and afterwards He the Exalted revived him to life.

  • اس کے تجسس کے سبب اللہ تعالیٰ نے اسے ایک سو سالوں کے لئے موت سے ہمکنار کر دیا۔بعد ازاں اس مدت انہوں نے اسے حالت حیات میں بحال کر دیا۔

  • He the Exalted asked: "How long a period have you stayed here?".

  • انہوں نے اس پوچھا’’تو کتنا عرصہ یہاں رہا؟‘‘۔

  • He (the wayfarer) replied: "I stayed here for a day or may be only a part of it".

  • اس نے جوب دیا’’میں یہاں ایک دن یا دن کا کچھ حصہ  رہا ہوں‘‘۔

  • He the Exalted told him: "No, your assessment is not correct; the fact is t you have stayed for a period of hundred solar years.

  • انہوں نے جواب دیا’’نہیں؛حقیقت میں تو ایک سو شمسی سال یہاں رہا ہے۔

  • Therefore, to perceive phenomenon of resurrection, you look at your food and drink; it has not become worsened.

  • اس حقیقت کے ادراک کے لئے تو اپنے طعام اور اپنے پانی کو دیکھ،اس نے اپنے  آپ کو عمررسیدہ/بوسیدہ نہیں کیا۔

  • And look towards your donkey only to find it just as crumbled-decayed bones

  • اور تو اپنے گدھے کی جانب دیکھ۔

  • --Be informed, the purpose of all this is to render you a demonstrative Sign for the people to perceive and understand death and resurrection--.

  • ۔۔تجھے اس تجربے سے گزارنے کا مقصد یہ ہے کہ ہم جناب تجھے  ایک نشانی بنا دیں جو لوگوں کو موت اور بعد از موت حیات دئیے جانے کو سمجھا دے۔۔

  • And keep eye on the bones to see how We raise them as skeleton

  • اور ان (مردہ گدھے کی بوسیدہ )ہڈیوں پر نگاہ رکھ،دیکھ ہم انہیں کیسے  بطور ڈھانچہ کھڑا کرتے ہیں۔

  • Afterwards Our Majesty garb them (bones); covered with flesh".

  • بعد ازاں ہم اسے (ہڈیوں کا ڈھانچہ)کیسے ڈھانپتے ہیں گوشت سے ۔‘‘

  • Thereby, as soon the resurrection phenomenon became self evident for him on watching demonstration of revival of decayed bones in living donkey of him, he said, "I  have the absolute knowledge

  • اس عملی مظاہرے سے جوں ہی انہوں(اللہ تعالیٰ)نے اس کے لئے   کیسے دوبارہ حیات دی جائے کو متمیز کر دیا تو اس نے کہا’’میں حتمی طور پر جانتا ہوں۔

  • That Allah the Exalted has indeed eternally infinite power-command and control over each and all things and phenomena". [2:259]

  • کہ یقیناًاللہ تعالیٰ ہر ایک شئے اور معاملے کو پیمانوں میں مقید کرنے پر ہمیشہ سے قادر ہیں۔‘‘


  • You the Messenger [Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam] further tell them: "Had it been the will of Allah the Exalted, I would not have orated it (Qur’ān) syllable by syllable upon you people

  • And nor He the Exalted would have made it known to you people.

  • Realize it as you know I have lived a lifetime amongst you people before it (Qur’ān)..

  • Is it for reason that you do not ponder-use intellect to differentiate?  [10:16]


  • Know it; the Day He the Exalted will gather them altogether; it will appear and will be the guesswork of some as if they had not stayed but for an hour of the day. They will be recognizing each others.

  • Indeed they caused loss to their selves who contradicted their presentation to and accountability by Allah the Exalted

  • It retained them in a state of those who incline not to become guided aright. [10:45]


  • Know it, Our Messengers had come to Iebra'heim [alai'his'slaam] with good news, on arrival they said, "We wish you peace and tranquillity". He returned salutation saying, "Peace and tranquillity"

  • Finding them unfamiliar faces/not of his place, thereat; he delayed not in serving a roasted calf before them.  [11:69]

  • And he said to the one of them about whom he construed that he will be safely released, "You mention about me before your Master-King."

  • اور انہوں(یوسف علیہ السلام)نے اس شخص کے لئے کہا جس کے متعلق انہوں نے اندازہ لگایا تھا کہ دونوں میں سے وہ سزا سے بچ کر جیل سے  کسی بھی وقت رہائی پا جائے گا’’تم میرا ذکر،یاد دہانی کرنا جب تم اپنے سرپرست کے قریب موجود ہو گے‘‘

  • Thereby, after release Shai'taan/Satan made him forget to mention to his Master-King whereby he remained in the prison for few years. [12:42]

  • مگر شیطان نے اسے اپنے سرپرست سے ذکر کرنا بھلا دیا،جس کے نتیجے میں وہ(یوسف علیہ السلام)چند سال جیل ہی میں رہے۔

  • Be mindful, the Day He the Exalted will call you, thereat, you people will reflexively respond by His glorifying praise

  • And you people will guess that you lived in dead state but for a little while." [17:52]


  • [by asking you for statements other than Qur’ān-17:73 which causes irritating disturbance] And they approached/intended to disconcert you in the City that they might make you move out of her.

  • And in that case they would not have stayed after you except for a little while. [17:76]


  • Afterwards a number of years, Our Majesty revived them to original position so that We may make evident which of the two parties better comprehended the period of time they stayed. [remained sleeping]. [18:12]


  • And for this Our Majesty revived them to their original state so that they may question among themselves.

  • One of the participant of talk asked, "How long have you stayed here?"

  • Some of them replied, "We have stayed for a day or just a part of a day."

  • Others said" [Don't be conjectural] Your Sustainer Lord fully knows how long you have stayed here.

  • Therefore, send one of you with this coin of yours towards the city, then let him see which of the meal is purer/nutritious

  • Whereby he should bring eatable provision from that; and he should be cautious and neither should he let anyone have clue about you. [18:19]

  • And they (youths) stayed in their cave for three hundred years, and those [masculine-Moons] added nine years. [In 300 solar years Moons add nine making equivalent to 309 lunar years] [18:25]

  • You the Messenger [Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam] advise, "Allah knows exactly/accurately the time duration they stayed [in that condition]

  • The invisible/hidden secrets of the Skies and the Earth are for Him the Exalted to administer

  • You keep observing about it and keep listening [what people gossip about this episode without indulging in controversy and enquiry, as advised in 18:22]

  • For them there is no patron and protector apart from Him.

  • And He the Exalted never associates a single one in His decisions/commands." [18:26]


  • When your sister was following, thereby. (subsequent to your not sucking milk of any wet-nurse) she was telling them: "May I lead you people towards him who could rear him?"

  • Thereby, Our Majesty returned you [fulfilling Our promise to her] to your mother for cooling her eyes and not to let her grieve.

  • And you killed a person whereby We rescued you from the disturbing situation and We subjected you to troubles - difficulties in liquefying manner.

  • Then you lived for years amongst the people of city Madyan.

  • Afterwards, you have reached to the measure - point in time [for appointment as Messenger] O Mūsā [20:40]


  • They will be murmuring amongst themselves, "Not you remained in dead state except for ten days". [20:103]

  • Our Majesty know fully what they say murmuring, when says the trailblazer of them, "you remained in dead state but for a day." [20:104]

  • He the Exalted said, "How long you stayed in the Earth, period by number of years?" [23:112]


  • They said, "We lived for a day or some part of a day, [we are not sure] therefore You ask those who keep countmathematicians". [23:113]


  • He the Exalted said, "You lived there but a little period

  • Had you people realized it at that time. [23:114]


  • He (Fir'aoun/Pharaoh) replied:  "Did we not nourish and raise you among us while you were a child?

  • And you lived among us many years of your age [26:18]

  • And indeed We had sent Noah [alai'his'slaam] towards his nation

  • Whereupon he lived among them for a thousand lunar years save fifty solar years.

  • Thereby, for reason of contradicting him, flood seized them while they were persistently evil doers. [29:14]

  • And the Day when the Appointed Moment is manifested they will be divided amongst themselves on the point that they did not remain [in dead state] other than an hour

  • This is how they were kept deluded/diverted [with baseless conjectural assertions]. [30:55]


  • And those who were given the knowledge and the belief said, "It is certain that you had remained in that state for a period; written in the Mother/Principal Book in safe custody of Allah the Exalted, up to the Day of Resurrection,

  • Whereby this is the Day of Resurrection, but you people remained persistent in not recognizing it." [30:56]


  • [the falsity of their excuse of exposed houses may be seen] And had people entered upon them from all its sides

  • Thereafter, they were asked for creating the panic - disturbance they would have certainly done it, and would not have delayed it except slightly. [33:14]

  • Except the Creature of Earth, she was eating his supporting staff

  • For reason of supporting staff being damaged could no longer support the dead body, when as soon he fell down on Earth, the Jinn self realized that if they had the knowledge of invisible things they would not have remained in such humiliating punishment [immediately after his death] [34:14]


  • Certainly he would have remained part/in his belly [as fossil] until the Day people will be resurrected/revived. [37:144]


  • Therefore, you the Messenger remain coolly perseverant like the tradition of patience exercised by the Messengers of strong willpower

  • And you should not react to hasten finality for them [as they ask you to hasten decision].

  • [they mockingly ask that when they would have converted to bones and dust, their perception will be] As if, the Day when they see [resurrection] what is being promised to them, [their observation would be that] they had not stayed in that condition except for an hour of a day.

  • The time is to cross over to that Moment

  • Thereat, would anyone get destroyed and doomed except the people who are deliberate and persistent defiant and deviants? [46:35]

  • [they mockingly ask that when they would have converted to bones and dust, their perception will be] The Day when they see [resurrection being promised to them, their observation would be that] they will feel as if they had not stayed in that condition except for a noon or morning part of it.
