Ibn Faris [died 1005] stated:

(مقاييس اللغة)

اللام والغين والحرف المعتل أصلانِ صحيحان، أحدهما يدلُّ على الشَّيءِ لا يُعتدُّ به، والآخَر على اللَّهَج بالشَّيء.

That it leads to the perception of something which is inappreciable, inconsiderable; and secondly to attach to - be very fond of, mention continually, repetitively talk of or about something.  

Lane Lexicon: He jested, or joked, with him;  applied to speech, &c., Nought; of no account; (M, K;) unprofitable.

Classical Lexicons

Its usage in the Grand Qur’ān is in the perception of frivolous, vain, futile, absurd, palaver, empty talk void of substance; myths, gossips, and thoughtless utterances like catch phrases.

  • Allah the Exalted will not hold you people accountable for your superfluous-artificially speaking promissory chatters in sworn circumstances [since they are utterances of mouth of no import-consideration].

  • But be mindful that Allah the Exalted will hold you responsible and accountable for those vows, pledges-promises which your hearts have earned-arrived at. [well thought, determined, intentional]

  • Be cognizant, Allah the Exalted is eternally imperturbably over looking-forgiver [of unintentional faults/wrong doings] [2:225]

: It has nothing at all to do with the concept of "ignorance" contra. of the Knowledge. It is also done with the objective to down the others talk, roping awaylimiting the efficacy of others talk. Obviously this cannot be done by "ignorant-one who lacks knowledge", rather it is in itself a skill.

  • Allah the Exalted will not hold you people accountable for your superfluous promissory chatters in sworn circumstances [since they are mere utterances of mouth of no import-consideration].

  • But be mindful that Allah the Exalted will hold you responsible and accountable for those vows, pledges-promises which you have solemnly contracted/sworn. [well thought, determined, intentional]

  • For reason of not discharging the pledge, the expiation-absolving one's self is feeding ten indigent persons the food of average standard that you regularly serve your family

  • Or provide clothing to them; or free a bondwoman.

  • Sequel to it; he who has not yet resources to meet the expenditure; thereat, fasting for three days is prescribed. [so that in future you become mindful and heedful]

  • This is the expiation of your promises when you have sworn.

  • And you people protect/honour your promises/pledges/contracts.

  • This is how Allah the Exalted explicitly explicates His Aa'ya'at: Verbal Passages of Qur’ān rendering each point-concept-situation distinctly isolated and crystal clear for you people [for comprehension as was promised to the Messenger Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam]

  • So that you might effectively recognize, acknowledge and express gratitude. [5:89]


  • They will not listen therein any meaningless and baseless utterances, except sound statement.

  • And for them is their sustenance supplies therein at morning and evening. [19:62]


  • And those who avoid and ignore conjectural hearsay spread and made popular in the society [23:03]


  • And they are those who do not witness or bear witness on conjectural falsehood

  • And when they come across/pass on the farce/irrational conjectural gossips they gently pass/skip away in a dignified manner. [25:72]


  • And when they heard conjecture-myth-frivolous statement narrated to them by people, they avoided debating it.

  • And they said to them:  "Our deeds will cause effect for us; and the deeds of you people will yield result for you.

  • We wish that presently a state of safety, security and tranquillity is caused to veil upon you

  • We do not seek, and wish not to make ourselves shallow emotionalists-traditionalists-conjecturers." [28:55]


  • They will be joyfully snatching from one another therein the glass of drink in which there is no side effect resulting in ill - irrational speech and nor any dilapidating/hangover effect. [52:23]


  • They will neither listen therein any meaningless and baseless utterances nor irritating ones [56:25]

  • Except sayings of peace and tranquillity. [56:26]


  • They will not listen therein any meaningless and baseless talk, and nor falsified statements. [78:35]


  • They will not listen therein any meaningless and baseless talk [88:11]

  • Know it: those (ruling elite) who had disavowed advised aristocrats saying:

  • "You people should not attentively hear this Qur’ān

  • Instead, you are instructed to devise and spread conjectures-palavers about it (as if it is nugatory to merit attention)

  • This strategy might enable you people retain the dominating authority." [41:26]

The majority of aristocracy and their coterie scholars use their Logical Brain-Frontal Lobe of cerebral cortex associated with higher function of thought and action. It is associated with reasoning, planning, movement, problem solving, emotion's control, and parts of speech [Broca's area]. They use this faculty to plan deceptive and falsified tactics to exercise and perpetually retain their authority and dominance over general public whom they consider in their privacies as: the vilest-riffraff of society.
