Corpus of the Grand Qur’ān - the Sustainer of truly living life
Translating Grand Qur’ān in the 21st century through Triplet Theory of Translation
Welcome to Grand Qur’ān Academic Study Circle.
We are in the 21st century, living and knowing each other and are in access like the residents of a village. We have come to know that we all share almost an identical DNA. Why can't we find and agree on a book that could guide us all in personality development of our species like the DNA that guides the development, growth and upkeep, maintenance and repair of human body. We successfully decoded the Human Genome through International Genome Project, which President Clinton called as learning the language of God in which He created Life. May I tell you that otherwise an old book it has prescribed in its contents its decoding - synthesis method matching synthesis of protein encoding genes? Decoding of protein encoding genes ensures sustaining healthy life, and the book I am referring proclaims it is the Sustainer of life to immortal truly living life. It is ever living book, the Grand Qur’ān.
Grand Qur’ān discarded both the theories of translation, i.e. "word by word (also termed as "literal translation" - translating meaning of each lexical item in sequence)" and "Sense-for sense translation - translating the meaning of each whole sentence before moving on to the next", prevalent in the days of its serial publication for translating it to any language of Non-Arab lands. It not only indicated method of its translation but also mentioned keys to evaluate the accuracy of translated target language text. Considering the genealogy and operating system of Arabic language, a little that I have come to know about it, I have named this Theory as Triplet Theory of Translation, exoterically matching it with triplet method of translation of protein encoding genes conveyed by the Messenger (mRNA) in Human Genome.
A proposal for an International Project for Translation and Interpretation of Grand Qur’ān
I neither claim am a linguist, nor academician and scholar, but am autodidactic student of Qur’ān. Thereby, I wish there be an International Project for deciphering the Book, titled Qur’ān, by purely and simply following the academic rules and principles applied to reading, understanding, comprehending, translating and interpreting non-fiction books by setting aside all notions and works done by its believers and non-believers. We, I mean we all, irrespective of what hitherto we believe or belong to a philosophy, should do it with our own background knowledge about anything so far acquired, because today we are its audience.
Francis Bacon is stated to have once remarked that "some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested". He was perhaps classifying and evaluating books by importance and greatness. In real life, the process of digestion involves mechanically breaking down the ingestible into small pieces and then by chemical process converting it into liquid form. The key word for human's dietary protocol in Arabic is: حَلَٟلٚ from Root: ح ل ل. Ibn Faris stated that its primary signification is to open, unlock, unwrap a thing, it denotes to disassemble, unfasten, and untie the knots. The ingestible upon liquefaction is absorbed into the body to sustain vitality and life.
If the ingestible is a book, which, in every language, is but words and phrases tied into sentences, sentences tied into paragraphs and paragraphs into text - discourse, we will need liquefying it to digest the book. Francis Bacon has incidentally given us one of the best Translation Theory and methodology that can meet at reader's level the ultimate objective of authoring a non-fiction book - communicating knowledge, the sustainer of vitality and life. The computer and Internet technology and introduction of concept of Corpus Semantics has made it easy for us to chew and digest any book of any language.
I am not aware if Francis Bacon did name some books he thought need to be chewed and digested. The dietary protocol prescribed in the book titled Qur’ān restricts the ingestibles to: حَلَـٰلٙا طَيِّبٙا beneficial, nutritious, and delightful for the individual rather than which is: خبیث or نکدًا junk, picayune. The book titled Qur’ān, to my knowledge, is the only that has built-in claim of it being the Grand, the Greatest Discourse and that it is the Sustainer of Life:
Therefore, I think this is the Book we must chew and digest.
Interestingly, Grand Qur’ān is the only in the list of revered books that prompted and asked and is still asking since over 1400 years for its forensic analysis for its questioned authorship and organization of its intellectual property. Strangely and amazingly the Grand Qur’ān firstly introducing it as unique book touches the question about its authorship and then asks to verify it (2:2 read with 2:23;10:28). And later expanded forensic analysis and comparison is proposed with reference to ten chapters in Ayah 11:13. And still later by reference to entire Discourse in Ayah 52:34.
وَلَا تَعْجَلْ بِٱلْقُرْءانِ مِن قَبْلِ أَن يُقْضَىٰٓ إِلَيْكَ
وَحْيُهُۥ |
|
بِأَيْدِى سَفَرَةٛ .١٥ |
|
كِرَامٍۭ بَرَرَةٛ .١٦ |
|
It is thus the Intellectual Property exclusively of Allah the Exalted. Intellectual property is overall term defining creations of the mind, like a book. It is the form of expression of ideas, choice and arrangement of words. It is the reason it is alive in time-space and its persistence and safety is guaranteed not by the first Publisher but by its Author:
إِنَّا نَـحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا ٱلذِّكْرَ |
|
وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَحَـٟفِظُونَ .٩ |
|
The hostile attitude and deceitful tactics of the contemporary aristocracy (direction for "ٱلْغَوْا۟ فِيهِ") had raised serious concerns and apprehensions for the elevated Messenger about the safety and protection of the Intellectual Property of the Book of Allah the Exalted during and after his life time. He was consoled and informed accordingly. But this emphatic statement also has the value of a claim.
For making the Chewing and Digesting the Life Sustainer Book easy for everyone we firstly need Comprehensive Corpus that breaks it to "molecular", atom and granular level as under:
1. Segmentation of Text into Semantic Frames; (I have attempted; just 906 frames)- A Line separates the Frame. They are also available separately where Arabic content is in images-Link
2. Segmentation of Text by individual words (atoms): 86,942 + 30 = 86972
(2.A) Unique Words: 18088
(2.B) Statistics of Ayahs and Words - Symmetries
3. Segmentation of Semantic Frame into Sentences (resembling a Gene in Human genome);
4. Segmentation of Sentences into Grammatical Units (equivalent Codon): Words and Phrases;
5. Segmentation of Grammatical Unit (Phrases) to granular level of Word; (unique words: nouns and verbs are respectively 9655 and 7650 )
6. Breaking the Word to molecular level, or we can say try emptying the word semantically as much as we can (Qur’ān defines word and text as a Container); in the manner of complementary anti-codon in Human Genome:
(i) Dictionary of Roots (in fact like seed containing DNA of complete embryonic plant -Concept)- they are just 1646.
(ii) Morphological segmentation; (semantic added to Root)
(iii) By Syntax, (semantic added by function and role)
7. Complying with command of: تَدَبُّرٌ bottom-top compilation of Frames by Concept.
8. Segmentation of Text by Type, like Injunctive, Narrative, Expository, Argumentative, etc. The largest content of text is Narrative; Second largest text is about philosophy and sciences; used as argument to prove Thesis Statement; the last is Informative and Injunctive for personality and society development.
9. Segmentation of Sentences by structure, simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex.
10. Segmentation of Text by Rhetorical Devices.
I am a volunteer here to assist the scholars, grammarians, linguists and academicians of the world. This Qur’ān corpus is an on going project for this purpose.
Using Google search engine (by pressing F-3 on keyboard) each word, string of words, sentence can be searched and read on the same page. This will reveal the superb use of unique device: تَصْرِيفٌ like coverage of an event by multiple cameras. By searching Key words of a sentence, one will see the superb linear coherence and unity by finding such cohesive tie that exactly connects to earlier sentence.
